1977 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Description

This is a 1977 Mustang Mach 1 302 4 speed T-top - Marti Certificate – One Of One

The car is unrestored with some updates/ replacement parts. Oddly, this is likely one of the rarest Mach 1 Mustangs built by Ford. 1 of 7 with the basic set-up of the car 302- 4spd - T-Top Black on Black car.

The paint appears to be original or if not very old. It has chips and dings, scratches, pitch blisters, and is worn through to primer in spots, and what appears to be 30-40 year old pinstriping down the sides. What is good about this, the car does not appear to have any notable rust issues- You really can't hide much under old paint.

I bought the car to build a fun 70's era T-Top hot rod. It seemed to be a pretty rare car, so I decided to have a Marti report done for the car, just to make sure I wasn't ruining a piece of history. That's what prompted us to stop, and see if, maybe it should be preserved instead.

It has a mild Cam 280/471 with Pro Products Manifold similar to Performer RPM with 600 Edelbrock Carb, alternator, voltage regulator, water pump, fuel pump, and timing set are new, as well as necessary gaskets including head gaskets and battery. We saved the parts that were removed from the car, and they will go with the car if desired.

Rust in the car is very minimal, battery tray and a small spot behind the bumper at the base of the wheel house on the passenger side. The instrument cluster housing is brittle and crumbling around the light sockets, however, the instrument lights, signal indicators, tach, speedo, and gas gauge work properly. We added a triple gauge set with oil pressure, temp, and voltmeter. It has a new light switch, ignition switch, and heater core, and the heater and wipers work as well.
It is lowered 2" and has 15x7 Fox Mustang GT wheels painted to resemble era appropriate Western style wheels. Tires are good, rears 245/60 with good tread. Fronts are 205/65 new. The interior is in quite nice condition, the carpet is new, I have pictures of the floor pans before the new carpet was installed. They appear to be solid as well. The engine starts easy, sounds strong with a notable gallop at idle, with a simple dual exhaust that dumps at the rear axle, again very period appropriate with thrush turbos. Surprisingly quick and fun to drive. Lights, blinkers, brake lights all work as well.

I have the four 13" 4 spoke magnum type original wheels, 2V intake, carb, EGR plate, air cleaner, alternator, water pump, and original exhaust including catalytic converter if desired.

The car looks better in pics than in does in person, it could use a paint job - trim restoration - and weather stripping; or, drive a 40 year old Mustang, have fun and not sweat bullets over a rock chip....

The car was last registered around '02 - It was impounded and sat in a tow yard for many years - It had been run through countless auctions and never sold. So there it sat until a friend of mine discovered it under a tarp in a shed and asked if it was available.

Please don't bid on the car if you aren't serious about buying it. Ask questions, or better yet - Come see it if possible. As always, it is for sale locally, and will end auction early if it sells...

Thanks for your interest.
