1962 Ford F-100 Description

For sale is a largely original, mostly unrestored 1962 Ford F-100, short-bed, full-frame pickup truck that I have owned since 1989 - first in southern California and now in Chandler, Arizona (the truck is a native California vehicle); it is equipped with a 223 six-cylinder engine, 3-speed manual transmission and 9” open 3.71 rear end. Since 2000 I have had the engine, transmission, clutch, drive-shaft, rear-end, steering box, king-pins, rear-axle bearings, and spring bushings rebuilt or replaced; generator, regulator, carburetor, master cylinder, radiator, water pump, headlight switch and most recently, battery, have been replaced; it has new tires as of summer 2016 (P235 75R 15). The truck has been an everyday vehicle for much of the time that I have owned it and, by far, is the most reliable, dependable, trouble-free vehicle that I have owned… a great example of unsurpassed American automotive engineering… at present, since 2000, there are 73,345 miles (they may go up if I need to use it, though I drive the truck sparingly)… it had 162,000+ original miles when I first acquired it…

If you are to drive it daily, it will need the following: a clutch replacement (it still works but it’s not as strong as it once was; there is a noise when you let the clutch in, too – not sure what it is); brakes, especially the front, are wearing – it will need new drums all around, too… the driver-side window was hard rolling and now is frozen in the top position… there is an oil leak from both the timing-chain cover and oil pan and the transmission drips gear lube (has done so for some time)… it has hard-starting problems here in the Arizona summer heat (carburetion issue), otherwise, it runs very well and idles smoothly… the throttle linkage is worn but works… the column shifter broke a year ago (pictured) so I have used vice-grips as a substitute shift! Not pretty, but it does work… at times, the first to second shift is not smooth and can jam in gear; not a big deal but you have to climb under the truck and manually place the transmission shift arms into neutral to free it… there is a clanking that sounds like u-joints, but they were replaced and the noise continued – do not know what it is, but it has not affected drivability… there is a vertical crack on the left side of the windshield and an under-dash leak when driving in the rain… radiator hoses should be replaced… rear motor mounts are worn…

There is one area of rust on the bottom right lower cab section (pictured) and the usual rust you find in California vehicles around the roof gutters (excuse my very ugly sealing job on the right!) but I have another roof section (from another truck); there is no other rust that I know of though there is surface rust on the bed – the floors are good, though the truck once had a floor-shift and there was a hole cut into the center floor; also, I replaced the right-side door and fender as they had damage – the ones I exchanged them with also have some damage but are repairable (I have the original door and fender, too, and would want them to go with the truck); there is some damage on the lower right quarter panel near the front and there is some old body filler on the right-rear quarter panel (it was there when I bought the truck) … the driver-side seat section is in poor shape and has been since I took ownership; the steering wheel has play (internal column bushing)… the headliner largely crumbled a few years ago… the parking brake is mostly frozen… the horn does not work (steering wheel issue) and neither does the cigarette lighter… The rear part of the camper shell is in poor condition but the door opens and closes…

It has after-market shoulder/seat belts, an old Clarion AM-FM cassette (cassette does not work) and a 1970s-era Sun tachometer; aftermarket Sun oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage gauges, too… In 2000, I installed an Auto Meter speedometer as the original one broke… the speedometer cable was rebuilt then, too…

The truck would make a fantastic restoration project or, with some work, an excellent daily driver – you decide!

Please contact me with any questions prior to bidding! We can go over the truck in detail by phone if necessary… I have endeavored to represent this vehicle in detail and as accurately as possible - I can send additional photos if necessary… If you are outsideof Arizona, I will assist in the moving, etc., but it would be your responsibility to arrange for transportation.

Thank you for viewing!
