1966 Ford Galaxie 500XL Description

After over 20yrs of working on my first car, it's time to part ways. I'm moving and cannot bring her with me. I have a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500XL that is black on black and the XL package has the upgraded bucket seat interior and special trim options on the outside of the car. They are a great looking car when finished. This car has the numbers matching engine, trans and rear axle. It is wearing what is left of the original paint and I have not been able to find any evidence of any accidents in it's history.
I drove this project home from the previous owner and began getting the mechanicals in order. The engine was removed and freshened up with all new Seals, Gaskets, High Volume Oil Pump, Hardened pump driveshaft, Lifters, Pushrods, Water Pump and heads were sent out for a full rebuild. The carb was recently dipped and rebuilt with kit from Mikes Carburetor. The C6 transmission was fully rebuilt and new u-joints installed with a new trans and engine mounts. The front brakes & bearings were done as well as the rear brakes rebuilt. The car comes with a fresh NAPA battery and has been converted to the Ford electronic ignition. The car runs, but is rough due to a timing issue that I wasn't able to figure out.
The front clip of the car was removed and the fender wells, firewall 7 core support (no rust, solid) were all cleaned and repainted before re-assembly with a new radiator
The interior was removed and all of the metal panels were professionally sprayed and reassembled into the car. The vinyl on front and rear seats is original and does have a few tears, but would be driveable for a while. I also have a complete set of front and rear reproduction covers with the XL pattern that do go with the car. these are still in their original plastic. All of the hardware for the trim that was removed
All of the hard to find XL trim and emblems are included with this car. It has been in dry indoor storage for the last 20yrs and before that was a Southern, IL car so there is very little rust on the body. The only places that need repair are the rear quarter panels. A patch panel could be spliced in right at the lower body line to make this solid once again. The floor pans are all very solid with no rust and the rear trunk is also solid.
Where I left off with this car is when I started the bodywork to paint the car. The areas where the paint was not good were sanded down to bare metal and over time got a layer of surface rust from not being primered. Since I can't take the car with me I'd like to see it go to someone who will finish it and get it back on the road. This is a complete car with a full set of rocker trim and wheel well moldings. Also the very rare front and rear spears are included with a NOS rear XL emblem. I have many many extra parts that I have acquired over the years that do go with the car and are pictured in the attached photo's.
