1968 Ford Mustang Hardtop Big Block
1968 Ford Mustang Base Hardtop 2-Door Description
If you're looking for a great project car, this is it! I've had this '68 Mustang for about 5 years now. I acquired this car from an estate in which its owner had passed away. It had been sitting in a garage here in Illinois since 1989. From what I can tell, during its time in storage, the previous owner pulled the original 289 V8 and replaced it with a big block FE engine. I'm unsure of the displacement, but might be a 390 CID. He also installed a heavy duty C6 automatic and 9" rear end. Springs all the way around were replaced to accommodate the extra weight of the new drivetrain and frame ties were added to strengthen the chassis. The car has power disc brakes up front and drums in rear, all of which have been replaced with new linings and hardware. After I acquired the car, I replaced the gas tank, rear leaf springs, and radiator. I also installed a new Edelbrock 650 cfm carburator with electric choke. This car runs and drives very strong and everything works. Lots and lots of torque. All mechanical work has been done and is ready to go. Drive it home, tow it home, or have it shipped to you.
The body is in good shape overall but needs a complete paint job. The previous owner had replaced both rear quarters. The floors are solid. All chrome is in really good shape and so are the bumpers and glass.
The interior needs to be replaced, but is complete and in place. It has a nice overhead console and the headliner is in excellent condition. Car originally had factory a/c but when the big block was installed, they never installed the a/c on the engine.
Overall, this is an extremely solid project car. This is a great car to start with because most of the hard work has already been done. With a fresh paint job and upgraded interior, this car could be perfect. You could be one of very few to own a unique big block Mustang!!! I'm located within 20 minutes of O'Hare Airport. Happy bidding!!!!
