Classic pickup truck fans, rejoice! MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this very hard to find 1949 Ford F3 ¾-Ton Pickup Truck. This is the heavy duty version of the original Ford F-Series that has a 6,800 pound gross vehicle weight with a full size 8x4 foot bed designed to carry a 2,600 pound load. Ford produced a lot of these trucks but the problem is everyone worked them to death over many generations so finding a good example today is a very rare sight! This truck has benefitted from a full professional frame-off nut and bolt restoration with the original condition steering left intact for character. This F3 looks brilliant in the sunlight with its Vermillion Red exterior and no need to worry about scorching on hot summer days, this truck is equipped with functional air conditioning for those hot afternoons!
Dressed in a brilliant Vermillion, this truck’s paint and trim are in overall very excellent condition. The truck’s flat, one-piece windshield and other glass panels are also in very good order. The lights on this F-series look great as well. The truck rolls on tires, sized 7.50-17 surrounding original Ford wheel covers. The tires and wheels look great.
All of this truck’s body panels are straight and solid, including the cargo bed, which has a wooden plank floor and nearly flawless inner bedsides. The engine bay is tidy and the bumpers are in good shape. A full-sized spare tire is mounted beneath the eight-foot cargo bed. This truck features a standard driver-side windshield wiper only, but has the optional passenger door mirror and the truck has been upgraded to a converted 12-volt electrical system but the horn and fuel gauge are inoperable.
Under the hood is Ford’s 8RT 239 CID Flathead V-8 engine buttoned to a 4-speed stump puller manual transmission with a spur gear.
Inside, the tan bench seat is in very good overall condition. There’s a black mat on the floor but it doesn’t extend under the seat and is in good condition. The truck’s headliner and red metal instrument panel are in very good order. The original three-spoke steering wheel is present and the bare red inner door panels look great. The mirror glass and shift lever are in good order. Rounding out the interior is a factory AM radio. Truck is equipped with a under-dash Ford heater box and under the seat is a functional custom air conditioning unit with custom ac vent routing to both side doors. We must admit, that this is one of the nicest functional custom air conditioning systems that we have ever seen in a vintage pickup!
The first-generation F-Series truck (known as the Ford Bonus-Built) was introduced in late 1947 (went on sale January 16, 1948) as a replacement for the pre-War designed Ford trucks. It had a flat, one-piece windshield and integrated headlamps. It had a wider cab. Options included the "See-Clear" windshield washer (operated by foot plunger), passenger-side windshield wiper and sun visor and passenger-side taillight. All F-series were available with optional "Marmon-Herrington All Wheel Drive" until 1959.
The most noticeable change on the 1949 trucks was the deletion of the red pinstripes on the silver painted grille bars. Wheels were painted to match body color, rather than the previous black wheels.
Competition to this Ford in 1949 included Chevrolet’s Advance-Design pickup truck, GMC’s New Design pickup truck and Dodge’s B-Series pickup truck.
This truck is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 225 miles and is understood to be mileage since restoration. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
