This is a complete, unrestored, original California Woody, purchased last year from San Diego, now located on the East Coast. It has a Ford 239 CI Flathead 110 HP “EAB” V8, with 3-speed on the column. It is drivable, has a strong engine and good shifting trans/clutch, mainly needs brake adjustment, oil pan gasket (leaking), and tune-up (needs gas pedal pumped to start). The starting system was properly converted to 12 volts with alternator; recommend gauges, radio, and heater be converted to 12 volts or installation of a 12V Start/6V Accessory battery (readily available). A complete set of correct replacement dash panels and knobs is included to replace warped/worn dash parts. All sheet metal (fenders, hood, inner fenders, etc.) are solid, no rust-thru. Some filler only in lower cowl pieces and spotlight holes. Car was repainted several times in life, shows overall surface patina. No signs of butchering or modifications, except one place in underside panel to access hood latch. All 3 seats and roof (w/padding) have been reupholstered in correct brown vinyl. New carpeting has also been installed. The body wood is original inside and out, with some repairs as shown in photos, and can be restored following woody restoration techniques or used as patterns for new wood. Front passenger door sags, other doors close and latch well. It has wider 1950 Mercury 15” wheels and hubcaps with almost new P235/75R15 radial tires. Also included is a correct metal spare tire cover, new hood springs, owner’s manual, sales brochures, and woody service bulletins. An original “Ten Over” Custom Longboard ($1000 value) and surf rack are also included.
The ’48 Ford is the iconic, most desirable of all woodies. This woody is ideal for easy maintenance to a dependable driver as is, or to restore with existing drivetrain and sheet metal, and original or new wood. Value guides start at around $55K for a complete running original, and go as high as $120K or more for full restorations. This is an ideal chance to get a complete, running, unmodified 48 Ford Woody V8 for much less than the lowest guide value, or minimal cost as a basis for full restoration.
