Our featured 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a lovely, fully restored example finished in magnificent Peacock Blue over a two tone blue and white interior. This T-Bird is equipped from the factory with a rare three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This fine car has been treated to a full restoration and presents in excellent condition with beautiful paint, very good chrome and high quality finishing. The body is straight and tidy with excellent, consistent panel gaps. Original fender skirts are fitted and of course is wears the factory equipped continental kit spare wheel. It rides on a set of fabulous chrome wire wheels wrapped in radial whitewall tires. The body is properly detailed with correct exterior mirrors, wind-wings and proper badging. Contrasting the brilliant blue paint is a white pinpoint vinyl soft top that is in very good condition.
The wonderful interior features a complementary color scheme ofPeacock Bluewith white accents. We simply love the dash design on these early Thunderbirds, the highly stylized speedometer sitting atop the dash and a flash of engine turned alloy trim that sweeps across from door panel to door panel. The upholstery is in excellent condition with clean and tidy white inserts against the blue seats and door cards. Extensive brightwork is all in very good order. Carpets are correct loop design and in good condition as well, protected by clear vinyl mats. The original switchgear is all in place as is the original Town and Country AM/FM radio. Instrumentation is all original and in working order save for an aftermarket temperature gauge which has been added for more reliable readings.
Ford’s M-code 292 cubic inch Y-Block V8 presents in very good condition under the hood. It is correctly painted in Thunderbird Red with proper T-Bird valve covers and chrome air cleaner in place. Proper detailing includes date and inspection stamps on the firewall, FoMoCo branded hoses, coil sticker and mostly correct clamps and fittings. It is clean and tidy with an emphasis on reliable driving. The engine is mated to a rare 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, which has been tested and found to be in proper working order with good clutch feel. This car certainly has the looks and thankfully, those looks are backed up with a great driving experience. It performs very well and is a very enjoyable cruiser, the manual transmission adding a bit of sporty character. This wonderful Thunderbird was recently displayed prominently in the main lobby of the America On Wheels museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania and proved to be a favorite of many visitors. This beautiful and well-presented Thunderbird is a prime example of Ford’s iconic personal luxury car. The color combination and quality set it apart, and its well sorted nature make it a fine choice for collectors or drivers.
