1968 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Description

History:

In 1968, the Mustang was trying to compete in NHRA and it's 390 CID engine wasn't doing the job. In December of 1968, Ford featured 50 factory built 428 Cobra Jet Mustangs. A handful of the 50 cars competed in the WinterNationals, sweeping their opponents, setting national records and in the end, competing against each other in the finals. On April 1st, Ford offered the 428 Cobra Jet in a stock Mustang in order for the records to stand. These production Mustangs were produced for 4 months of the 1968 model year.

Restoration:

The car was out west all of its life until I purchased it in 2003. It had original floors and panels and had been repainted one time. I attended the Mustang's 40thanniversary car show and saw many beautifully restored Mustangs, but one that was restored by Vail's Auto Body & Restoration stood out above the rest. I got on a two year waiting list and committed to having Vail's return the car to its original showroom condition. While on the waiting list, I scoured swap meets and chased every lead to purchase N.O.S. parts for this restoration. No expense was spared, from the new date coded O.E.M. glass, restoration of the original suspension and all the stainless restored and polished by Paul's in PA. The car is 100% date code correct with mostly matching numbers. The bottom of the car is as detailed as the top of the car. After a year and a half and countless man hours it is often commented at car shows that the car looks better than new. I have over 800 photos of the vehicle from before, during and after the restoration. I also have the original build sheet that was found under the carpet for this vehicle.

I am well known in the '68 Cobra Jet community. I have an all Ford Race purpose built collection. I am making room for another Race purpose build car. This car is not a factory race car, but it is very important in the Cobra Jet production history. This Cobra Jet has a pedigree that would be hard to top. I can be reached by serious purchasers only at (352) 650-1982. The car can be viewed in person at my home.
