1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback Description

This is a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 fastback.
From the factory it came as a big block 390 FE and 4 speed transmission.
This was a barn find we found about 3 years ago. Had been in a real barn in the Willamette valley of Oregon for about the last 25-30 years.
Over the last two years lots and lots of work has gone into this car and built as my dad wanted it.
It was repainted in high gloss Raven black base with 3 coats of clear. Very shiny and looks great when you are looking at it sitting or cruising down the road. Super solid car. Solid floors. Quarter panels and body panels are rust free or so close I did not find any. I am posting a picture of how we hauled the car home and as it was being worked on.
New rubbers were installed around the windshield and rear glass. The front glass is still the original C3 paint stencil part number glass. We wanted to keep that as to us that was very cool that it was original.
The interior is a factory bench seat car(rare with a 4 speed). All seats have had the foam repaired and new covers made. We had the seat covers made similar to the factory design but with a nicer material, more tuck and roll style to the pleats and custom silver piping. We did use the factory chrome buttons for keeping the correct Galaxie look but with upgraded style and comfort. New stock headliner with new padding was professionally installed. The rear package tray was covered in the same material and pattern so when you look from the back all the lines are the same from the back window over the seats. The original door panels where bad so we had new slightly custom ones made. Again going with the stock pattern but with a custom touch. The dash pad is still original. It has a few flaws but still looks good.
As you can see period correct looking under dash Air conditioning was installed. Yes it blows ICE cold. Period correct chrome Tach with shift light, oil pressure and temp gauges also installed. A new heater core was also installed. We installed a new chrome steering column with tilt for added driving comfort with a classic wood trimmed steering wheel. Lights, wiper, heater, defroster, turn signals all work.
Now for the fun part. When my dad found this car the original motor and transmission where not around any more. So we found and put together a motor trans combination we wanted. We located a true 428 big block ford motor that had been recently rebuilt. The fender badges have been replaced with 428 rather than the 390 tag. It is a standard 428(not a police interceptor or CJ) but does have the triple webbing. The gentleman we bought it from had recently rebuilt it for is hot rod but then sold the car minus the motor. It is a 30 over bore. Performance cam. Topped of with an "Offy" 60's dual quad intake with new edelbrock 650 cfm carbs with electric choke. New electric fuel pump. New gear reduction starter. New aluminum 3 row radiator, new expansion tank. Electric fans. Long tube headers with 2 1/2 inch aluminized pipe out the back with new flow master mufflers. We also installed electric cut outs(dumps) so when at a show or at the track you can hit the button and run open headers, and close just as easy before the police roll up for being to loud! See pictures for inside the motor pictures and under car exhaust.
We found a "RUG" top loader 4 speed trans, close ratio big bearing input and out put transmission and installed it. Classic Hurst shifter and new linkage was installed with the correct white knob! This trans was refreshed buy the previous owner for his car but we ended up with it. See pictures for inside of trans.
All new brakes front and rear. New wheel bearings in the front. New rubber lines. New updated dual chamber master cylinder. New front springs and new shocks both front and rear.
9 inch rear end with 370 gear set with a good working possi set up.
The bright work on the car is in pretty nice shape. We have not restored them at this time, but all are there and in good condition for being from 1963!
Brand new(last week) BFG raised white letter tires on classic cragar ss wheels.
The car currently is in Portland Or area but will be traveling down to my dad's new place in Phoenix AZ soon in my enclosed trailer for safe transportation. So can can be picked up from either location.
