1951 Ford Convertible Custom
1951 Ford Customline Description
You are bidding on a 1951 Ford Convertible. This car just came out of long storage. It has been in a heated garage free from any type of rodents. The gas tank was drained, fuel lines flush, fresh ethanol free gas installed, new optima battery, fluids checked and then started. Car seems to run just fine. The car will run and drive but the brakes are going to need some work. I would suggest replacing all wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and if it were mine I would replace the lines also, they are still original and over 65 years old! This is not my car, I am helping some friends of mine who have some medical bills that need to be paid. I will try and describe this vehicle as well as I can.THE GOOD:This is a running driving convertible. The car is presentable and could be a driver or would be a great candidate for a full restoration.Hard to find at this price range.Engine runs good, but probably could use a tune up.Car looks to be complete.Comes with a clear title. Most of the glass is the original Ford script with the exception of the windshield.Wiring in good condition.Would be a fun driver with only minimal work. Most of the exterior chrome is in real good condition with the exception of pitting on the door handles. The stainless trim is in good condition also. The following items work; Wipers, Taillights, License plate light, High beam headlights, Dash Lights, horn, Amp gauge, Oil pressure gauge, Emergency brakes, manual convertible top.THE BAD:This car has some rust issues, the rockers had rust and the "repair" was done very poorly. All that was done is to have had covers riveted in place over the rust and then filler applied over that. The inner rockers do have some rust through but not real major. The floors appear to be solid as does the frame.Along with the rust in the rockers there appears to have been rust in the area in front of the rear tires, which has filler. The area behind the rear tires looks to be solid.Car will need a complete brake job before it is driven on the highway. The following items do not work; RF park light, RF headlight on low beam, Speedometer, Radio, Interior lights, Heater fan, Fuel gauge, Temp. gauge, Lighter, Clock, Overdrive unknown.INTERIOR:Over all in fair condition, could be used as is but is showing many signs of wear. Door panels are warped, weatherstripping is original and in poor condition. Missing the passenger side visor. The chrome is in very good condition and the scuff plates look to be almost new. The interior is non-original, custom design.EXTERIOR:Overall the paint is in fair to good condition. There are a few scratches, chips, cracks, etc. The panels fit OK but not perfect. The doors could use some adjustment, but everything works as it should. The tires are period correct Firestone, 6.70 X 15 WWW. They have good tread but the side walls are showing there age with some minor cracking starting. Would not highway drive with these. Driver side rear view mirror broken. Poor repair on rocker panels.UNDERNEATH:The whole underneath side of the car has been painted with what looks to be a brush, probably with POR 15. None of the suspension looks to have been replaced but seems to be in usable condition. There are a few minor leaks out of the transmission and engine. There has been an electric fuel pump installed as a backup or full time use.
