1965 Mustang Fastback Factory A Code GT 4-Speed 289 4V Car
1965 Ford Mustang GT Description
Condition:Very complete, good running engine, driving 1965 Factory GT Fastback car. Previous Owner rebuilt engine shortly before it was stored. Odometer reads 55,775 but is most likely 155,775. Interior is clean with newly repaired and coated floor pans, all new underlayment, and new ACC 80/20 period correct floor carpet. Front seats appear new re-upholstered by PO, new front door panels, sill plates, and seat belts. While the paint is complete, it is in poor condition and will need a repaint after some minor body work. Recent mechanical and floor pan work completed is listed below.
The car is very near stock with a lot of original components or new stock replacement parts. PO added a few performance items such as Edelbrock Performer intake manifold with a Holley 4160 4V 600CFM, Hedders, after market wheels and tires. There are a few smaller areas damaged on the body shown in pictures(Hood and Drivers side rear quarter), and some very small dings and various paint scratches. Paint and body appear original with no signs of body repairs or rust that I can find other than some minor paint repair/touch-up and a small 5''x5'' area on the drivers door bottom front corner that is solid but has had some minor repair. I cleaned all the top surfaces and polished off the dead paint but paint has deep scratching like coarse sand paper or a brush had been used on it. Side panels were not sanded and brushed so they look better except for small dings and scrapes. Will need some minor body work and a repaint. Body and underside is solid. All date stamps on sheet metal appear original and correct to the build date of the car.

At the time it was being stored at his home in Walnut Creek, Ca where he lived at the time. I have the smog station paperwork that shows he owned the car at least since January 1968. He never told me who he purchased from but he told me he bought it from the first owner. I believe while he was living in Watsonville, Ca.When I purchased the car it had been stored for 7 years and was not started. The owner informed me he had just rebuilt the motor prior to being stored. I purchased the car and immediately stored it in my garage under cover until I retired a few years ago. It was to be a restoration project in my retirement but my plans have changed and I have decided to sell it as it is now.
Work Completed to Car:I decided to get the car running and drivable before I sell. Including repairing the rust damage to the rear floor pans. The only changes from stock I found on the car when I started making repairs was the original intake and carb had been changed out. The PO installed a Edlebrock Performer manifold and Holly 4160 4V 600 cfm carb. The PO also installed headers ( I believe they are Hedman), Aftermarket wheels and tires. Also the factory radio is long gone. What I repaired or replaced :Drained all fluids and replaced( water and coolant, engine oil, power steering, transmission, rear diff.)Installed an aftermarket air filter and housingInstalled new plugs, plug wires, points condenser, coilInstalled new battery, battery mounting bracket and hold down, regulator, alternator, starter, solenoid, starter wiring, battery cables, and alternator wiring harnessInstalled new hoses and thermostatInstalled new fuel tank filler tube, sending unit, steel lines, hoses, fuel pump. (everything between the original fuel cap and Holley carb complete)Installed new front disc brakes (SSBC) including rotors, calipers, and wheel bearings inner and outer with seal. Stock drums, pads, springs, rear cylinders, all steel brake lines, hoses. Upgraded the master cylinder with dual bowl for safety and new adjustable proportional valve. (everything except the rear backing plates and front disc rock/dust shields and mounting brackets which are original)Installed new wiper blades, front bumper guards, Lug nuts and wheel center caps.Repaired ignition switch and light switch.Cleaned and tested windshield cleaning water pumpChecked all lights including turn signals-All working- Cleaned fuse block and replaced all fuses with newCompletely cleaned, scraped, brushed and inspected the entire underside of car and trunk for rust. I removed the front fenders, gas tank, and interior except for dash and head liner. Finding small areas of rust in the rear floor pans, I cut the entire area out and replaced with new quality metal replacement sections (See work in additional pics link below). All was fully MIG welded and sanded smooth before applying three coats of POR 15 with an added coat of rubberized undercoated to match original. A small hole in the front passenger pan was also repaired using new metal to replace a 2''x10'' piece removed. The floor pan was resealed with quality seam seal. Interior and underside. Any surface rust found was treated, brushed and primed before coating applied. This includes all wheel wells. New front wheel well splash panels were installed. Rockers looked good with no rust. After inspecting with a small mirror and testing with a water hose I flushed and dried the fresh air cowl interior. It looked good and wasn't leaking but I wanted to coat the inside for good measure. I flooded POR 15 inside the cowl using a small hose especially around the vent collars, cleaned off old seam sealer and completely cleaned and recoated outer seams hidden by fenders.Trunk was thoroughly cleaned, coated with POR 15 and repainted with the proper splatter paint. New tank reinstalled with seal, tank pad, new filler panel, and trunk liner kit. New spare tire hold down and new aftermarket jack installed under original spare tire. All new interior carpet underlayment, under rear seat and diff also. New ACC 80/20 carpet on floors. Cleaned rear folding seat carpet only.Replaced all rubber access plugs.Over $4700 in parts and supplies spent.I have some of the used take- off parts that will be included with the car. Some original and rebuildable. See all in the pictures in Photobucket link below.History:I purchase this car from the second Owner in 2003. He never told me who he purchased from but he told me he bought it from the first owner. I believe while he was living in Watsonville, Ca. I will provide his name and where I believe he resides now to whoever buys the car from me if you want to try and contact him for more information on the car's first owner. When I purchased the car it had been stored for 7 years and was not started. The owner informed me he had just rebuilt the motor prior to being stored( I believe it is true as it starts and runs very nice). I purchased the car and immediately stored it in my garage under cover until last summer. I have some other cars and projects and have decided to sell it. It will make a great driver for right now and a very good car for a full restoration project later if new owner desires.
Car is sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. I will provide a clear Title and Registration but will not provide any smog certification or pay any DMV fees. Reserve price is set at a reasonable amount. I have tried to describe the condition of the car with the above and the following link to over 140 pictures, but a reminder this is a 51 year old car with some repairs and not a fully restored car so it needs work. Car can be viewed in person in Stockton, Ca by appointment. Reserve is set at a reasonable amount reflecting this running, driving, solid project car.
