1965 Ford Mustang Description

This 1965 Ford Mustang convertible is a cool mixture of vintage Shelby styling cues and modern upgrades that have combined to create a fantastic one-of-a-kind Mustang roadster. Packing a strong-running 302 and a kickin' stereo, this Mustang refuses to blend in and drives as awesome as it looks. The list of body modifications is extensive, but this 1965 Mustang convertible is still one of the most recognizable cars ever built. Up front you get a Shelby-style grille with Cobra emblem, a great-looking chin spoiler that's reminiscent of a Boss 302 piece, as well as that cool hood that's a combination of scoops and cowl induction. You'll note that most of the badges and the door handles were expertly shaved with no trace left, and Shelby-style side scoops were fitted in the quarters. Modern LED interpretations of the 1967 Shelby's sequential taillights (themselves taken from a 1965 Thunderbird) are fitted in back, along with a blacked-out ducktail spoiler that also looks like it could have come from Shelby American. It was all expertly installed and neatly integrated into the design, then covered in bright electric blue paint that seems to glow from within. It's a bit more powerful than the blue Shelby used for the stripes on the original GT350, but nobody will say it doesn't look awesome. It was finished with a set of GT350 stripes on the rockers and some sparkling chrome bumpers. This car is all about the eye candy. We know everyone is wondering is there a top? The answer is not on this Mustang Roadster, the tonneau cover is neatly molded in and no top is present. The interior is radically transformed, with the biggest modification being the deletion of the rear seat and top mechanism. The neat tonneau cover is reminiscent of the Thunderbird Sport Roadster, and now that you've seen it, a 2-seat Mustang looks pretty darned cool, don't you think? The front buckets are from a mid-80s Mustang 5.0 and they've been reupholstered in the original style, neatly blending old and new to create something that's unique but totally appropriate. A fat leather-wrapped Grant steering wheel works well and puts the shifter for the T5 5-speed transmission just a few inches away. The stock Mustang gauges remain, but a custom-fabricated center console ties it all together. There's an Audiovox touch-screen plus a JVC AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo head unit neatly installed in there, and the back seat is long gone, replaced by a custom enclosure with two giant subwoofers and additional speakers that sound spectacular. The trunk is still fully functional, housing a pair of amplifiers but still leaving room for car show gear. The engine is also a mid-80s 5.0 that's a neat fit in the early Mustang engine bay. Painted Ford Blue, it looks like it was born there and fortified with a bunch of chrome dress-up, this is an engine bay that you won't mind showing off. There's an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor up top, long-tube headers down low, and a heavy-duty late-model alternator to power that sound system. The engine bay is neatly finished with smooth inner panels and nice paint work and it runs superbly, as most 5.0s do. The T5 5-speed manual transmission makes this a car that's good under any circumstances and the original 8-inch rear end hangs out back. A brand new exhaust system sounds great, with that familiar 5.0 rumble, and the underside of the car was obviously restored and detailed when the car was finished, and it's still in good order today. Classic Shelby-style Torque Thrust wheels are a great fit and carry 215/65/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. This is not the purist's Mustang, but these cars have always been about individuality. Beautifully built, a blast to drive, and with a lot of high-dollar upgrades, it represents a huge value compared to the cost of the build. Call today!
