1970 Ford Mustang Description

1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet R Code Drag Pack

Overview: This is one of the rarest Mustangs there is. It is a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet 428 “4V” “R Code” Drag Pack, Ram Air. There were only 64 built with SCJ built with Detroit locker rear total, and this is an Automatic so I think the number may be 10-15 that were built. I have owned it for 20 years and it has spent most of that time in storage waiting restoration. The colors are White with Black Deluxe interior. Automatic Drag Pack Car.

The car was complete and running when I took it out of storage a few months ago. I starter to do a limited restoration so I could drive it and do a few shows next spring. I have too many other projects, and I am willing to sell the car as is . I have most parts to complete a limited restoration and have continued to do so as I market the car.

Prices are increasing Haggerty values a 1970 SCJ model at $116,000 This pricing does not take into account the rarity of my car and the options originally in this car. This car is a “W” code. Mustang Club of NJ puts this car in show condition over $140,000.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:

As I mentioned, I have owned this car for over 20 years. It has been in storage for most of that time. Rails truck boxes were all in good condition. Floors were replaced by previous owner a while ago. Magnum 500 were added to the car which were not original. Some changes were made to the car for performance, that will be listed later. The car still has the original Buck Tag still in place.

Clear Title with Marti Report.

History:

This car was purchased as part of an estate collection; Cars were in storage before I purchased them. I the previous owner was building the car for Drag Racing. Car was never raced however since I purchased it as part of the estate. As a result, the car has a number of changes in the drive train that I will explain the best I can. The car came with two engines. The one currently in the car not apperar to have the original engine. If it does it has been modified for racing. Not sure if the rear is original because it not numbered. Please note that I do not know what was done to the car by the previous owner, so I am writing this description for that view point. I will make every effort too represent the car the best I can.

Vehicle:

The car is a 1970 Mach 1 428 4V “R Code” “W” car. It has the Buck Tag still in place. Here is the description. From the Marti Report.

DRIVE TRAIN:

The motor does not appear to be original. The car came with two engines, one in the car. It was to be a Drag car so both engines were built accordingly to race specs. But that was almost 40 years ago. I believe the original owner took it out or modified the engine in the car for racing. It was very fast and sounds great. It has the following from what I can tell. It’s a FE Big Block Engine. Looks like a 428 (It still could be the original CJ block) I have not dropped the oil pan. Heads are C6 AE –R . This was the favorite for racing 40 years ago due to port size and that it has the original ford factory adjustable rockers. I know it has a race cam, but not sure what it is. That is why he had to put the adjustable rockers on. Intake is aluminum, but I do have the original Cobra Jet steel manifold. It has a new 750 Holley. The original shaker hood is included. Needs a few parts to complete. It looks like the original C-6 may still be in the car. I have not done any research on the rear. I believe it has been replaced. Looks like a 28 spline. I will check for Track Lock. I believe he had two set ups for racing. Again the car was not raced.

The second engine is a real prize. It is a 427 FE center oiler stroker with all Super Cobra Jet internals including crank and balancer. It is commonly known as a 427 Stoker Engine. The rarity is that it has all the Super Cobra Jet components. I suspect that the owner took apart the original engine to help build this Stoker.

I do have some emission parts, but not all of them.

I have original Drag Pack oil cooler and adapter. I also have original power steering cooler. Correct radiator and engine fan included. Gas tank blasted and cleaned. New sender and mounting.

Good exhaust system with correct mounts. I have the correct exhaust tips.

SUSPENSION:

The suspension is original; I am currently re building it with all me brakes bushings shocks etc. It has, Ford 9-inch rear; I am not sure it has the 4;30 in it does not seem to be the Track Loc. the front and rear torque boxes are good as are all rails and truck. Springs were tested and are up to spec. All new Gas shocks will be included. Rear brakes are original. Fronts are original, but are being rebuilt with all new components. Front and back rails are perfect. Front shock towers are excellent. It has the reinforced shock towers in excellent condition. Big Block front sway bar along with correct rear sway bar. With all new bushings. The transmission looks original, but I cannot confirm. TA Radials are on car. X 15. Magnum 500 were added. Average condition. Should get tires. These wheels are in overall good condition with only minor scrapes. Center caps in place.

BODY

The body was in very good condition when I bought it. Floors were done. It looks like one rear quarter and the rear fender were replaced at one time. Rear panel was replaced. Doors were good as were front fenders only minor cosmetic work was completed. All floors were done over the years as I mentioned are OK but not concourse. Underbody is stripped and ready for prime which I will do. A lot of new Chrome will be included with sale. All glass is excellent. Trunk is very good with minor repairs. As are both new valences. Mach 1 molding will be included. Sports lights and grill in excellent condition. No Cracks. Hood locks very good and work fine. New bolts were added in most areas.

Hood is shaker hood. Both fenders are original and very good condition. Glass is very good and complete. NO Clacks. I have correct drag pack horn assembly. Have correct hood tie downs.

All lights and side markers included. Wipers included.

Currently car is primed and getting ready for Paint job. I will continue when possible to work on the car until sold.

EXTERIOR CHROME

The exterior chrome is in very good condition with many new parts. Esp. a new Rear bumper.

INTERIOR

The interior was Complete, with many new components. New correct Mach 1 Carpet set. Headliner is good, New door panels, I have correct seat cores that need to be recovered. Original seats were replaced with low backs which are now out of the car. Rear seat panels and fold down are excellent with all tabs All interior lights were working prior to restoration. Working Am Radio. Dash pad is cracked. Center console in excellent condition with deluxe glove box lid. Full wireing with Lighter in console. All factory correct seat belts. And shoulder harness. Very good sun visors. NOTE: The original Tach Dash in place as well as Mach 1 dash, clock, seats, belts etc.. Correct jack.

New Parts: I have been putting together a bunch of new parts. Some are OEM, some are repo. These are not installed yet. Here are just a few, list is too long.
