Fully restored restomod with stock appearance and upgrades Colonial White over Raven Black exterior and black power-folding top with matching interior 4.6L Modular OHC 16-valve V-8 engine and AODE four-speed automatic transmission from modern Mercury Grand Marquis Power steering, power front disc brakes and vintage air-conditioning Continental spare tire kit and rear fender skirts

Desire a classic droptop with a modern heart? MotoeXotica Classic Cars has what you want in this 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner Restomod. This particular example was made in Ford’s Dallas, Texas (VIN code D) assembly plant on March 1, 1957 (VIN code 1C). This handsome steed hails from dry Arizona and was a recent recipient of a full restoration with modern Ford drivetrain and drives like a dream!

Dressed in Colonial White over Raven Black, the paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with only minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The windows are clear and intact while the car’s lights are in excellent order. Its bodywork is straight and solid, including the Continental kit and the rear fender skirts, the car’s bumpers look fantastic, fit well to the body and there are even dual rear antennas. Its engine bay is very tidy and the car’s battery looks new. This car also has a black, power-folding cloth top that is in overall very good order.

This car rolls on American Classic wide whitewall tires, size P205/75R14 at all four corners. Each tire surrounds a steel wheel topped with a factory wheel cover. The tires and wheel covers are in very good order.

Under the forward-hinged hood is where things get modern. A modern fuel-injected 4.6L Modular overhead cam V-8 engine replaces the car’s original 292 CID V-8 engine (VIN code C) from the factory. Similarly, a Ford four-speed automatic overdrive transmission with electronic controls (AODE) takes the place of the factory transmission. There is also an electrically-operated radiator fan. The horn is inoperable but driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power steering and power brakes. This 61 year old classic drives like a newer car but with way more style and grace!

Inside, a black-and-white interior replaces the original. The front and rear bench seats are in overall great shape, with a few minor blemishes visible on the center of the front seat. The complementing black carpet is in very good shape, while the original, white three-spoke steering wheel is present and looks good. The car’s Colonial White metal instrument panel, with its arcing speedometer, evokes the space/jet age themes trending at that time but it the HVAC panel lacks the temperature control arm. The inner door panels mimic the rest of the interior’s them are in very good condition. Rounding out the interior is a factory AM radio.

For 1957, a new style gave Fords a longer, wider, lower, and sleeker look with low tailfins. The new proportions and modern styling were such a hit with customers that the Ford outsold Chevrolet in 1957 for the first time since 1935.

Competition to this Ford in 1957 included Chevrolet’s Bel-Air Convertible, Dodge’s Custom Royal Convertible, Mercury’s Montclair Convertible, Oldsmobile’s Super 88 Convertible, Plymouth’s Belvedere Convertible and Pontiac’s Star Chief Convertible.

Imagine taking this to a local cruise event or car show, knowing that even if there’s another Sunliner, it would be set up like this one. Drop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and check this ride out before someone else takes it home!
