Rare 1964 1/2 1965 Mustang Convertible, MANUAL TRANSMISSION. NO RESERVE!!!
1964 Ford Mustang Description
NO RESERVE!!! This is your chance to own a piece of history. We have recently retired and are downsizing from a 3 car garage to a 1 car carport here in Scottsdale, AZ. Sadly, that means our small classic car collection must go.
We are selling our RARE 1964 1/2 Ford MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE, 289, V8, MANUAL TRANSMISSION CLASSIC CAR. Only 28,000 convertibles were produced that year and it’s estimated that less than 3,500 are still in service worldwide. Less than half of those have the highly sought after and more valuable 3 speed manual transmission! This car is a very dependable driver and an even better investment that is sure to appreciate as the numbers of manual, V8, 289, 1964 1/2 Mustang convertibles continue to dwindle.
Why buy a 1965 model when there are tens of thousands still out there when you can pay just a little more and own a rare 1964 manual, 289 V8 convertible that will only go up in value? This is your opportunity to own an older restored (fifteen years ago) 1964 1/2 Mustang that has been well cared for over the years. It has always been adult driven and never abused.
This classic Mustang starts right up and runs and drives great. No mechanical issues, and no smoke or leaks. This car is as comfortable going 65 mph on the highway as it is 35 mph in the city. I recently drove it between 65-70 mph for a very long road trip through the desert with no shimmies or shakes of any kind.
The interioris especially nice and clean, no rips in the seats or side panels, and no cracks in the dash. The restored chrome bumpers are nice and shiny, and the trunk is beautifully dressed up for a night on the town. The paint is older (fifteen years) so it has some surface scratches, chips, and small, eraser sized bubbles. But 95% of the paint looks great with it’s rich, shiny burgundy color. In classic car vernacular, it’s a very nice 5 footer. The glass looks great, too. I’ve taken a lot of closeup photos so they will show the condition
This Mustang has been recently refreshed with new whitewall tires, a new battery, and a new black convertible top and black boot. The new black top and boot provide a beautiful contrast to the shiny, burgundy paint. Also, wejust had the Mustang serviced here in Scottsdale by the oldest classic car repair shop in the Phoenix area that services Barrett Jackson cars. Then, the car was professionally detailed inside and out, so it looks great. In total, $1800 was invested in the past year to keep the car looking and running great, so it’s ready for another 54 years.
This rare 1964 1/2 Mustang convertible gets thumbs up and horns honking wherever it goes. If you don’t like attention, you won’t want to buy this car!

Here’s what ClassicMustang.Com has to say about the legendary 1964 1/2 Mustang:A First Rate IntroductionLee Iacocca, Ford’s then General Manager, commissioned his design team to come up with a two seated roadster that would compete with popular European cars as well as the American Chevy Corvette Sting Ray.
In 1964 production was in high gear for the newly designed 1965 Ford Mustang. The highly anticipated Ford Mustang was honored by being named the INDY 500 pace car of 1964 and Ford stepped it up to accommodate the rising status of their new design. A special convertible version was adapted as the pacer. It was manufactured in white with a blue stripe on the hood and trunk. Ford also made 230 extra pace cars, available in convertible and hard top. The 64 1/2 convertibles had a 289cid engine, and the hardtops came with the less powerful 260 V-8. Thirty five convertibles were sold to dealerships and 195 hardtops were given out in dealer contests held in April of 1964.
Clearly the new Ford Mustang was suddenly everywhere! It was even featured in 1964’s Bond movie, Goldfinger! Yes, the Mustang was an instant hit! A true royal gem in Ford’s car making history. It was the most successful release Ford had made since the 1928 introduction of the Model A and it has stood the test of time. Ford is still continuing the Mustang line and even the newer Mustangs are a modern collectors item.
Although originally the Mustang was advertised as an early 1965 model, Ford made some changes to the later 1965 models that differentiated the two, and it is known today as the 1964 1/2 Mustang (1964.5 Mustang). Thus, the term 1964 1/2 or 1964.5 was eventually coined.
