IN EARLY JANUARY OF THIS YEAR MY WIFE AND I, PICTURED IN BOTH VIDEOS, DECIDED TO BUY AN INVESTMENT GRADE TOY TO HAVE FUN WITH AND WE PURCHASED THIS CAR. ON JANUARY 18TH MY WIFE HAD A HEART ATTACK, HAD TWO STINTS IMPLANTED, AND THEN IN APRIL SHE HAD DRUG INDUCED LIVER FAILURE CAUSED BY AMOXICILLIN (YOU KNOW HOW THEY PRESCRIBE IT LIKE CANDY? WE QUICKLY FOUND OUT THAT IT IS 'NOT' CANDY BUT THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF LIVER FAILURE!), AND NOW OUR PLANS HAVE CHANGED AND WE WANT TO TRAVEL, SEE SOME MOUNTAINS AND BEACHES, AND SPEND SOME TIME TOGETHER.
I AM 60 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN A CLASSIC CAR ENTHUSIAST ALL OF MY LIFE (FIRST TWO CARS WERE 57 CHEVY'S), AND I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS WHAT TO LOOK FOR AND WHAT TO AVOID. THIS CAR HAS IT ALL WHICH BEGINS WITH AN ENTIRE LIFE SPENT IN THE SOUTH. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL FASTBACKS IN MY LIFE AND THIS CAR HAS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST 'BONES' OF THEM ALL. IT HAS ZERO RUST OR RUST REPAIR AND IF ONE LOOKS AT THE DRIP HOLES ALL THROUGHOUT THE CAR ONE FINDS NO CORROSION AND NO CLOGS WITH SLOPPY SKIM COATING, ETC. FURTHERMORE, THE PINCH WELDS ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE CAR ARE PERFECT. TOPSIDE ONE FINDS THAT ALL OF THE REVEALS/GAPS ARE EXCELLENT AND THE DOORS HAVE ZERO SAG AND CLOSE LIKE A NEW CAR WITHOUT DIFFICULTY OR RATTLES. ALL OF THE LOCKS WORK, THE WINDOWS ROLL UP AND DOWN WITH EASE, THE REAR VENT CONTROLS SLIDE WITHOUT EFFORT, AND EVERYTHING POINTS TO A BABIED LIFE AND A HIGH END RESTORATION.
THIS CAR WAS OWNED FOR THE MAJORITY OF ITS LIFE BY A MAN IN CALIFORNIA WHO AT THE RIPE AGE OF 83 DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO PASS IT ALONG. HE WAS A FASTBACK FANATIC AND THIS WAS HIS BABY. HE WAS THE ONE WHO DID THE RESTORATION AND THERE ARE FEWER THAN 2000 MILES ON IT SINCE COMPLETION. ALMOST EVERYTHING ON THE CAR IS NEW INCLUDING ALL OF THE WEATHER STRIPPING, WINDOW SEALS, ETC. THE PAINT AND BODY WORK IS TOP OF THE LINE. THERE ISN'T EVEN A HINT OF ORANGE PEEL ANYWHERE IN THE PAINT AND ALL OF THE WINDOW TRIM WAS REINSTALLED LIKE A NEW CAR. IT FITS FLUSH, ISN'T DINGED UP, AND I SUSPECT THAT IT IS ORIGINAL BECAUSE THE AFTERMARKET STUFF IS CRAP AND NEVER FITS RIGHT. THE GLASS IS PERFECT, AND THAT IS NOT HYPERBOLE. THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES OR CHIPS NOR ANY OTHER IMPERFECTIONS. THE ENGINE BAY IS SHOW QUALITY. I WAS TOLD 2000 MILES TOPS WERE PUT ON THE CAR BUT IF I WAS TO GUESS BY ENGINE GASKET SEAMS, ETC., I WOULD SAY MAYBE 500. THERE IS ZERO UGLY ON THIS CAR.
MECHANICALLY THIS CAR HAS BEEN GONE THROUGH FRONT TO REAR. THERE ARE NO CLUNKS, STRANGE NOISES, STEERING SLOP, BRAKING ISSUES, ETC. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BUILT AND I DON'T HAVE SPECIFICS BUT FROM MY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE I WOULD GUESS OVER 350 HP. I GET ON IT JUST A LITTLE IN THE TEST DRIVE VIDEO AND IT WILL EASILY SPIN THE TRACTION LOC (POSI) TIRES IN EVERY GEAR. PEOPLE ARE OBSESSED WITH BIG MOTORS BUT FORGET OR DON'T KNOW THAT SHELBY DOMINATED THE WORLD WITH A 289 THAT WOULDN'T COMPETE WITH THE ONE IN THIS CAR. FURTHERMORE, LARGER ENGINES BRING MORE WEIGHT AND CREATE CORNERING INSTABILITY. THIS CAR, AS IT IS PRESENTLY SET UP, WILL . 98% OF THE MODERN MUSCLE CARS FROM STOP LIGHT TO STOP LIGHT. IT IS SUPER QUICK AND THE EXHAUST NOTE IS HEAVENLY (FLOWMASTER). I SHOULD NOTE THAT THE TIRES ARE NEW AND IT JUST HAD A FRONT DISC BRAKE CONVERSION ALONG WITH A NEW DUAL CYLINDER MASTER.
LOOK AT THE PICTURES, WATCH THE VIDEOS, AND DO NOT BID UNTIL YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS AND THE APPROVAL OF YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. IF YOU CARE TO PERSONALLY INSPECT THE CAR OR HAVE SOMEONE DO SO ON YOUR BEHALF GET IT DONE BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS. I AM OPEN TO OFFERS BUT DON'T COME LOW BALLING. THIS IS A CLASSIC THAT WILL ONLY GO UP IN VALUE, ESPECIALLY AS THE ECONOMY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE WITH LEAPS AND BOUNDS. THE HORN CAP IS OFF IN THE VIDEO BECAUSE WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL IT OCCASSIONALLY MAKES CONTACT AND BEEPS THE HORN. ALL OF THE LIGHTS, BLINKERS, WIPERS, SPEEDOMETER, GAUGES, WORK.
