1967 Ford Country Squire Country Squire Description

I am selling my 1967 428 Country Squire. 1147 were produced with the 428. Originally sold by Giles Motors in Morganton, North Carolina and was used until 1983 when, for some reason it was taken off the road and stored until 1991 when it was then moved to Ohio inside storage. It had not been run since 1983 and needed a full mechanical restoration which I took on last Fall. Everything on the car as I began work appeared to be original to the car. Odometer showed about 48,000 miles. 48 or 148 you be the judge, but the front drums had FOMOCO stamped on them and 3 of the 4 headlights were original FOMOCO stamped units so who knows?
POWERTRAIN:
The 428 codes out as follows:
Heads: C7AE-A 7E3 (5/3/67)
Block: C6ME-A 6E16 (5/16/66)
"S" Intake: C6AE-9425-G 6F17 (6/17/66)
The original engine tag was on the engine and is shown in one of the pics. The original Autolite 4300 will be included as the 428 now has a Holley 600 in its place. The aftermarket 7 Litre air cleaner is used to clear the Holley 600 carb. The original air cleaner will be included (as will all parts that were original to the car)
The engine did turn by hand but had corrosion in the #4 cylinder and the decision was made to have it gone through. The block has the sand casting "A" that shows it to be a 428 block and bore and stroke measurements and crank casting numbers showed this to be the real deal. Engine was bored .020 over and set up to run well on unleaded premium. Since the engine was out, the C6 transmission was rebuilt, all the brakes were completely gone through including flushing the hard lines, replacing all flexible lines, master and wheel cylinders and booster. Has the rare 3" wide police/428 front drums and shoes and the system now uses DOT 5 synthetic fluid.
Apparently, this wagon lived on dirt roads as the undercarriage was (and still is) red with NC dirt. That driving environment required the steering box to be rebuilt and while I was there went through the rest of the front end including front and rear coil springs.
Drive shaft was bent so it got rebuilt. The 428 cars were not equipped with a Ford 9 inch like the 390s, these had a 9 3/8" "Lincoln" rear end. Similar, but different.
Radiator leaked so it got recored to preserve the original radiator.
Gas tank has been cleaned and sealed using the "ReNu" process and a NOS sender installed. All hard lines were flushed and alcohol resistant rubber soft lines installed.
New P225-75-15 tires on the correct and original 428 rims.
Mechanically it is turnkey and is ready to be driven anywhere.
BODY:
The beauty of this wagon is its originality. The hood and the fronts of the front fenders had been painted at one time, but the rest of the body sports its original paint, fiberglass moldings and transfers. Pics speak for themselves. 50 plus years old and shows it. Bumpers are original chrome showing quite a bit of wear. Rear bumper has minor bow (Winter project if it does not sell) Paint is decent considering age. Other chrome and stainless is in remarkable shape. RF fender has dent low behind wheel well. Dents and dings elsewhere. All doors are North Carolina clean along the bottom and that includes the tailgate. The spare tire well has 2 small pinholes in no way affecting the structure. Just super solid, same can be said for the floorboards inner extension panels rockers and especially frame. No perforation, incredibly clean. Cleaned the dirt/mud off the floorpan and there was paint underneath.
INTERIOR:
Interior is decent, front power seat (works) was reupholstered in slightly different shade red. Dash has a cover on it as original is sun baked and I cannot justify $1400 to have the original redone. Door panels are OK and presentable, see pics. All power windows work including tailgate (all new motors) A/C works, but holds a charge for only week or so. All glass with exception of the windshield is original Car-Lite. AM/8 track works and the AM sounds pretty decent through the 4 factory speakers. I would not press my luck with the 8 track.
I do have (and will include) a set of mint red 67 LTD interior door panels if you are not a stickler for originality. The door cards would work great to reproduce the original pattern as the factory door cards have some water damage.
Headliner needs repair at seams. Rock Auto has them $167.00 in the proper red.
New ACC carpet and mats.
The Marti Report gives the specifics on how, when and where it was ordered, production dates etc.
HOW DOES IT RUN?
It runs great, the Holley 600 is well matched for the 428. I noticed the mechanical fuel pump makes a clicking noise when cold and goes away upon warm up. Just to make sure there was no noise engine issue, I removed the pump and started the engine on the fuel bowl. Ticking noise gone so not worried about it.
It drives great, but keep in mind that this is a 4200 pound wagon with a single exhaust and a 2.8:1 open rear end. Yes, it is a 428, do not expect 428 Cobra Jet performance. :) It accelerates well, tracks down the road great and the 4 wheel drums do a good job of slowing it down. 0-60 in about 9.8 seconds.
Clean, green Michigan title in my name.
Hopefully I have been clear in the description, any questions or specific pic requests please give me a call on Seven 3 Four 7 Three 5 2 Zero Eight 6. NO texts please. Will not return them. Located in Flat Rock, Mi 18 miles south of Detroit. Thanks, Warren

On Aug-18-18 at 18:00:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

I do have complete on lift underbody shots showing just how clean the underside is but since there are already bids, I cannot add those to this listing. If interested let me know and I can send them for your review.
Also, I did a leak test on the A/C system today and the issue is a slow leak around the sight class on the expansion valve. No other leaks were "sniffed". A fairly simple fix, that will be done this winter if the wagon does not sell.
