1982 Ford Mustang GT Description

1982 MustangGT

I am selling a 1982 Mustang GT with 26k original miles on it. The car is in exceptional unrestored condition with original paint. It comes with a lot of original paperwork and was featured in the Fox Mustang Recognition Guide for the 1982 model year. This car has had 4 owners since new.

Exterior

The car still wears all of its original paint. The glass is all the original Carlite glass. The paint has some light stone chipping on the lower rockers. There is a 1" paint flake on the passenger side front bumper cover on top. There are a few small chipson the hood and down the sides of the car. The body is remarkably straight. I have had the body gone over by a PDR tech who specializes in classic cars. No holes were drilled throughtout the PDR process. The pinch welds are perfect. The T-Tops are in great condition. All moldings are in great condition. The rear louvers are in perfect condition. The Ford Motorsport Mudflaps are in new condition. The Marchal fog light covers are in very nice shape. The chrometwin exhaust tip is the original tip and in great shape. All exterior lights work. The paint is very shiny. It is the original single stage paint. It still carries 100% of its factory orange peel. The rear louvers are Ford OEM NOS installed by a prior owner. They were bought with NOS hardware and are installed as original. The windshield wiper blades are NOS and are the same early style that the car left DAP with.

Interior

The interior is in near perfect condition. The highlight of the interior are the Recaro seats. A prior owner picked up a donor Recaro interior and had the seat covers and foam replaced with TMI seat covers. TMI uses the 100% original fabric for these seats and they look and feel perfect. The original black vinyl seats are mint and go with the sale of the car. The carpet, door panels, dash and radio are all perfect. There are no smells or odors in the car. The rear hatch panels are in great shape and the T-Top bags are present. The rear speakers were replaced in the original location behind the original speaker grills. Original speakers go with the car. The shifter, boot and all other console pieces are like new. The headliner has started to sag over the back seat. I have NOS black foam-backed tier grain vinyl headliner material that will go with the car. This is the exact material that the factory used on the headliner.

-As of 8/11/18, the original headliner was removed from the original headliner board and the original board was recovered with NOS black foam-backed tier grain vinyl. This was done at a very professional shop and it was done correctly. The results are perfect.

Engine

The engine looks and runs great. It has been cleaned by hand with rags, q-tips and WD-40. The engine is stunning. Nothing in the engine bay has been painted. The plugs are new Motorcraft. I have the original spark plugs. The battery is Motorcraft. The wires are original and date coded. The PCV valve is the original red valve. The water pump was just replaced with a NOS OEM Ford (not Ford Racing) water pump. Original water pump was saved. The original date coded radiator was recored by a local radiator shop. The top of the radiator is embossed Ford with the E2 engineering number. The radiator cap is original and date coded. The thermostat was replaced by a factory 197 Motorcraft unit. The air cleaner is a K+N. The carb is a factory Motorcraft 2150 that was professionally rebuilt. I have the original carb. The battery cables are original. The cap and rotor have been replaced with Motorcraft partsand I have the originals.

Drivetrain

The transmission and rear end are the original SROD and 7.5" rear with the factory slapper bars. The rear end was rebuilt with a NOS Ford Trak-Loc and 3.45 gears. The speedo gear was changed and the speedometer is spot on. The work was performed by Realspeed in Long Island, NY.

Suspension

The suspension is all original except for the rear shocks. The rear shocks are black just like the originals and feel stock. I have the original shocks. The car rides on LMR TRX wheels with 225/55/16 BFG tires. The wheels and tires are brand new. They were mounted with a touch free Hunter machine. Wheel weights are in the barrel. Fresh alignment. Original wheels and tires go with the car (TRX).

Undercarriage

The undercarriage is beautiful. I have removed most of the undercoating by hand with WD-40. The floor pans are stunning. Nothing has been painted and no paint removed during clean up. Car retains original exhaust front to back including twin tip and Ford embossed muffler. Car has period correct Ford Motorsport bolt on subframe connectors. I have the receipt for these when they were purchased in the early 90's.

  • Any questions please call/text Tom 3017172663 6am-midnight EST. This car is among the best 1982 Mustang GT's in existence. It is a freak. It's condition is beyond the imagination of the average Foxbody enthusiast and must be seen and driven to appreciate the attention to detail given to this car. This car is not clapped out. It is not a ghetto cruiser. It has no goofy aftermarketstripes, alarms, kill switches etc. It is not an undercoated disaster. I have owned 5 1982 Mustang GT's over the last 25 years. Nothing has ever come close to this car. I have never seen a more pristine example in my lifetime. I purchased a 2007 Shelby GT so I am making my 82 GT available for purchase. Car will not be available for purchase after auction ends. It will not be relisted for a lower price.
