1937 Ford Working Convertible Street Rod LT1 FI Engine 700R4 Trans Corvette Rear
1937 Ford Convertible Description
This is a 1937 Downs bodied fiberglass roadster with a functional convertible top. My best friend had this beautiful car built by Jim Downs in his own facility. My friend had very specific requirements for this car and no corners were cut in it the parts purchased or the quality of the build. I highly recommend any potential bidders inspect this car closely before bidding. This car was built a while ago but only has a little under 6600 miles on the odometer.
The body is straight as an arrow and near perfect except for a few road chips acquired while being enjoyed on the road. Original steel 37 hood sides are used to give a taste of the original car. The convertible frame is stainless steel and oak bows covered in a beautiful tan fabric. I believe the color is a Mustang red and is gorgeous. A third brake light is incorporated under the convertible top and a lift up flush gas lid leads to an oversize SS gas tank. Taillights are integrated into the rear fenders and the running boards are smooth. The doors are hinged suicide with bear claw latches for easy entry and exit. The doors open with a remote and the windows go down the same way. The top has a boot when put down, there is a bra for the front and a car cover for winter naps.
The engine is a crate LT1 fuel injected motor purchased from Apple Chevy in PA with accessories from Street and Performance including :brackets, pulleys, wiring harness and computer, all parts being chrome plated. Keeping the car cool is a Griffen radiator and Cooling Components electric fan. Block hugger headers are used and lead to a dual exhaust with megs exiting in the rear. The transmission is a Street and performance 700R4.
The chassis is a new fully unit boxed with tubular crossmembers. The suspension consists of disc brakes and coil overs at all 4 corners. The front suspension is custom made tubular A arms with a power rack and pinion and the rear end is an aluminum independent Corvette rear ! Brake flex lines are braided SS with AN fittings. The under body is painted car color and the frame is black. There is a dualdiaphragm power brake booster. The car has Weld Wheels and Goodrich tires.
The interior is done in glove soft tan leather, the seats are T-Bird Turbo seats and the drivers is power. I put in a picture of some of the controls located under the center armrest. The column is tilt, I believe it is an Ididit and there is a full compliment of gauges (the fuel pressure gauge does not work). There is an AM/FM that I have not gotten to work yet and a 10 CD changer in the trunk that does work. Behind the seats are storage compartments and the battery. There is a foot operated emergency brake. The floor is a combination of carpet and vinyl. Vintage Air offers heat and cool and wiring harness is by painless.
The trunk is finished like the interior and opens with the push of a switch. The 10 CD player is located in the trunk and there is storage behind a removable panel.
There is a video of the car on you tube, search 1937 Ford Convertible Downs Corvette Rear
