1940 Ford CONVERTIBLE Description

Here is a really nice & correct 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible built to the late Forties hop up/custom style. This neat original Ford was modified about 25 years ago by hot rod historian Don Montgomery. The car was set up to be as it might have been in the late 1940s.Runs & Drives excellent. The car is lowered a little using longer shackles and de-arched springs but is super smooth and handles great.

High performance was not forgotten. The Mercury flathead engine (239" + .030" bore)has added speed equipment, including a awesome1936 McCulloch Supercharger,Early Original Edelbrock heads, a Potvin cam and Real Fenton headers. A Stromberg 48 carburetor delivers the fuel and the spark comes from a Harman & Collins dual coil ignition with 2 DSM Mallory coils. Real Douglass steel pack mufflers ( From 1950) provide a smooth exhaust note. Real 1937 Desoto ribbed bumpers front & rear.

The car is in really good condition. The paint, rebuilt engine, interior & top weredone over 30 years ago....but very presentable. The car is certainlynot perfect.... there is some wear, scratches and scuffsbut the car is really very nice & has the perfect authentic drivenlook. The body is very good and solid as this is a real California car. No Rust!! All the stock trim is still in place.

The mechanical things - brakes, shocks, kingpins, radiator, axle bearings, steering and etc. were all gone through after the car was purchased. The 244" engine runs really well...Super smooth & cool. The vacuum operated top works properly. The hop up modifications were done in the early 1990s. One minoritem to note is that the rear main seal drips a little as so many flathead engines do. This car runs and drives like new. Super solid and everything works!! All factorygauges work, even the radio. Has 3Period Stewart Warner gauges( voltage, boost & temp). Has stock fan & electric fan on aswitch. The interior is very nice as well. Has lap belts too.

The car goes down the freeway at 70-75 mph with no problems. Drive anywhere. No issues, noisesor smoke! * This car was Owned by the Hot Rod legend Don Montgomery so you know its top quality!
* I also have the skirts, 15" Firestone whitewalls, steel wheelsand flipper caps like in a few of theold pics. As well as the correct paintedskirts. The new owner will get them. The car is set up right now with new black wall 6.50 x 16Firestones,Correct16" wheelsand 40 stock caps (like in current pics) I also have a box of parts, the correct factory 16"spare and some neat oldpaperwork from Don.
