1965 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible Description

Ford knew that not all people who bought a compact were willing to miss out on premium features. For those who desired V8 power and style with their lightweight cars, there was the 1965 Ford Falcon Furtura convertible. Today this is a rare example that was fully restored with all the right ideas - from an A/C interior to a terrific color combo. The 1965 Falcon is a difficult car to find. The Ford Mustang production was in full swing by the time this car came around. Consequently, Ford only sold about 6,300 premium Futura convertibles that year... or basically 1 for every 12 Mustang convertibles sold that year. It makes for a far rarer example of a lightweight and fast Ford, and this example is desirable for far more than its rarity. It went under a full frame-off restoration in 2010. The deep black finish is part of a $7,300 upgrade. It has been treated with respect ever since, so this one retains a terrific gloss in the sunshine. The white side trim makes for a timelessly attractive contrast, and it even coordinates with the white folding roof. And there's plenty of American-style brightwork on the wraparound chrome bumpers, grille, and complete trim. Plus, the classic American Racing Torq Thrust wheels add to the vintage charm while also hinting at nice power within. A car like this is meant to be open to the world. So with the flip of a switch, the power top goes down to reveal a tasteful black interior. In fact, a new motor for this was installed in 2017. There was about $3,000 invested around the same time as the paintwork, because they knew this one need to look great inside and out. The seats are taut, the door panels are crisp, and the dash is deep and dark. So it makes for a fantastic backdrop for all the bright trim inside. And because this is the kind of convertible that just begs to be cruised all weekend long, you have great features like a retro-looking AM/FM stereo that's really a more modern unit with aux/iPod input. And the air conditioning is blowing nice and cold. While there are plenty of Mustang comparisons to the Falcon, the best one is under the hood. The C-code 289 cubic-inch V8 is the same motor that made Ford's pony car famous. It's the correct displacement for the car, and it's even believed to be the original motor. And the gold air topper, matching valve covers, and all those factory decals certainly help with the look of originality. The V8 was rebuilt in 2016 that included a hotter Speed Pro cam. Plus, more recent servicing including the head ($2,000) and a rebuilt of the upgraded four-barrel carburetor. That makes for a strong engine that runs nicely and makes a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. And in keeping with this great cruising attitude, you also have features like the three-speed automatic transmission and front disc brakes with a new master cylinder installed in 2017. Complete with build receipts, this is the nicely restored and nicely maintained rare Falcon Futura droptop that really get it right. So if you like to drive you classics, call today!
