It is a real 1955 Thunderbird that when mated to a 427 Cobra you have Thundersnake!!!
I inherited this car from my brother who passed away in December.
Before he passed he gave me as much information about his car as he could remember, but I am sure that he forgot some items. I have many receipts from this build and they go with the car.
So here is as much information that I have:
The Chassis was custom built by Progressive Automotive in Baltimore Ohio. It started as a 1955 T-Bird frame modified to fit a C4 Corvette suspension. The rear has been narrowed 4" and has a 3.73 gear with Aldan coil overs. It has a Quickor custom made 1" front sway bar and a splined rear sway bar.
The front spindles are C4 Corvette and the steering is a 1989 thunderbird power rack and pinion. Front suspension is Aldan Eagle Coil Overs.
Front brakes are Baer 13" Corvette 4 piston C4; rear are 12" Corvette C4. Front wheels are American Racing Cobra 17 x 9; rear wheels are17 x 11.( cost $1507.00 have receipt)
Fronttiresare Goodyear F1 275/40 x 17 and rears are 315/35 x 17(cost $1189.20 have receipt)
The engine is a 1965 Ford FE Side Oiler 427 +.030 over with TRW pistons 10:1 CR. Cam is a Crane Hydraulic Blazer. It has a Mallory Unilite distributor with a flat cap and Fireball coil. The headers are custom made and have been Jet Hot coated. The polished stainless steel side pipes are from Stainless Specialties (these cost $2405.00 I have the receipt). The heads are Edelbrock aluminum, Edelbrock aluminum water pump, the intake is a "Blue Thunder" Dual Quad. Carbs are dual 600 CFM Holley with chrome fuel bowels (work done by Inglese Induction Systems $1244.83 have receipt). It has a Melling oil pump, Mocal oil cooler and an 8 quart Canton road race oil pan. Engine was built by Jegs of Columbus Ohio when they did engine work at their 751 11th Ave. shop I have the original Tech sheet from Jegs.
Transmission is a Borg Warner Super T-10 with a Hurst shifter with a Ford OEM Cobrastyle lever.
Extensive body work was performed by Sweitzer Performance of Bucyrus, Ohio. ( I have receipts for the body work and paint that total more than $50,000.00)
Custom madeflares front and rear, Cobra fender louver ($150.00 have receipt)and 427 aluminum hood scoop ($100.00 have receipt) from Cobra Restorers LT, flush mounted Cobra emblems, custom made wind screens similar to the look of a Callaway C-16 Corvette Speedster. The open front grill with fans are pure cobra (this kit cost $700.00 have receipt). The paint blue with white stripes scheme is carried thru every where, even over the license plate. The outer grill "hoop" was difficult to make but after many tries it is perfect. Custom Chrome Plating did all the chrome work. Taillights are 1956 Mercury station wagon units. Bumper jacks in polished stainless steel were $116.00.
The seats are Recardo buckets $850.00 have receipt)that have been redone in black leather with bright blue stitching. Blue Cobras were embroidered in the headrest and in the trunk panel. G-Force four point racing harness ($284.00 have receipt)were installed for driver and passenger. Behind the seats are storage compartments for the twomatching full face helmets.
It has a Flaming river tilt column and a LeCarra Cobra Wood steering wheel.
The dash is pretty much stock 1955 T-Bird with some added gauges. Even the tach is Cobra.
He also added custom stainless steel roll hoops for the Cobra look ($241.00 have receipt).
The drive shaft is a Dennys Driveshafts Aluminum.
The gas tank is a custom built polished stainless steel unit.
The weight specs on this unique build is LF 808lbs RF 752lbs LR 720lbs RR 745lbs
for a total of 3025 pounds front 51.5% rear 48.5%.
As you can tell from all this information this car was a high end build
