For Sale is a 1955 Thunderbird Restomod hot rod with a sporty 351w, and 4 wheel disc brakes. it has a freshly rebuilt T5 5 speed transmission with new gears, syncros and backed by a strong, locking Ford 9 in rear.
As for suspension, the independent front has been beefed up with a 7/8ths inch sway bar, a moderate 2 in’' drop and polyurethane bushings. The rear is a triangulated 4-link setup, dropped 4in'' with a slightly firmer spring rate to perform best with the front sway bar. Also, therear quarters were rolled to accept the wider 15’' American Racing wheels which allmakes for a fantastically balanced driver’s car. It has all the comfort of a floating 50’s car, all while sitting at a much more aesthetically pleasing stance than all these“rarely enjoyed original’’ Thunderbirds. However as for the buyer’s ability to enjoy this T-bird, the torquey 351 was built by a Top Fuel drag team’s mechanic and runs better than any carbureted motor I’ve ever seen and sounds fantastic through the Thrush mufflers. Even when cold, the motor roars to life immediately, yet never gets to hot because the electric fan wired to a thermostat keeps everything cool even in Texas summer driving. The motor was built to be as reliable with excellent street manners, plenty of power to enjoy all over the RPM range and it does so wonderfully. The transmission was rebuilt and installed with a new clutch by local shop with over 30 years experience less than 500 miles ago.
The car also sports low back bucket seats and a Hurst shifter for a more modern car feel, four wheel disc brakes so you can be confident in today’s traffic, and Dakota Digital gauges for a tastefully modern readout. Although the speedo sometimes cuts out, it is rare and promptly comes back on when the key is flipped. Although I’ll be the first to tell you the car isn’t perfect, it wasn’t built to be, it was built to be enjoyed. Therefore, there are a few chips and scratches in the beautiful Viper red paint topped with a silver metallic clear coat. Although there is a large gap at the rear of the door, the car is otherwise exceptionally straight and rust free. I have all the parts needed to put a brand new 6-71 supercharger on top of the 351w (some parts were very hard to find), to include carbs and linkage, accessory drive and crank pulleys, intake manifold and pop-off valve for an additional $5500. Why buy a depreciating new Mustang or Camaro at a greater cost than this bird when you can have a much cooler roadster (comes with a hardtop) with similar power for less $?
