1957 Ford THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE FRAME OFF RESTORATION IMMACULATE Description

Up for your consideration is a magnificent example of the most recognized and revered American made classic automobile in one of the most rare and desirable color combinations. Feast your eyes on this restored 1957 Ford Thunderbird. It is mechanically and cosmetically impressive with brilliant chrome and extreme attention to detail maintaining its originality. Ford created the 1955 Thunderbird to challenge the Chevrolet Corvette launched in 1953. The Thunderbird was advertised as a luxury sportscar. Interestingly enough though the initial '55 offered... only one engine - a 292ci V8 providing 198hp, and the luxury sportscar easily outperformed the Corvette's I235 6 cylinder engine which only produced 155hp. Tbird sales in '55 were brisk but one complaint was the trunk was too small, so the '56 model had the spare tire moved out of the trunk to a continental design which also lengthened the car 10". Other changes in '56 were the 6V electrical system was upgraded to 12V and wing windows were added. Along with the initial 292ci a larger 312ci V8 was offered rated at 225hp. The 1957 model was the last of the 2 seater Tbird which took the best from the two prior designs. Gone was the continental rear end which shortened the length 4" and the spare moved back to the trunk. The handling was also improved. Also back was the thru the rear bumper exhaust ports- a casualty of the continental rear end of the '56. Engine options also grew still having the 292 and 312 (now rated 245hp) plus 2 new offerings - a 270hp V8 dual 4V option and a limited production 300hp supercharged engine. This particular Tbird has its original D code 312ci 245HP 4V engine with Fordomatic automatic transmission. The low mileage shown is believed to be original though cannot be verified. Power options of this Tbird are power steering, power brakes, plus inside the cockpit power seat and power windows. The current owner is an originality freak so other some chrome bolt on enhancements - this is pretty close to how it rolled off the showroom floor including bias plys as it would have been. This car is wearing its original X code dusk rose color Henry Ford referred to as pastel pink. Many people change these cars to this very desirable color, but rolling out of the showroom that way is more valuable. Firewall tag calls for K code white porthole hard top. A white soft top is on board as well. Both tops in good condition. The stock interior is in the code XK white color it was born. Interior in excellent condition with an incorrect though desirable Thunderbird aftermarket cassette stereo. No dash modifications done so a stock radio can be installed. Stare in awe at the underside pictures - amazing condition with no signs of rust, rust repairs, or any other issues. This eliminates what can be a costly issue to repair for the unsuspecting, perspective buyer.
