1966 Ford Mustang Description
Restored 1966 Mustang This is a fresh restoration. I am the second owner, the original owner purchased it and drove it in Dallas until it was parked in the early 80's. The original miles are 50,XXX miles. The factory options are:
* Power Steering
* Air Conditioning
* Window Tint
* Automatic Transmission
* 289 CI Motor
* 8 Track / AM Radio
* Center ConsoleI purchased the car a year ago and immediately began the restoration. The car was completely disassembled. The body was taken down the bare metal by hand. The original metal was in amazing condition, the underneath of the car is in it's original condition it made no sense to paint it or strip it due to its condition. It is harder and harder to find a car with such good bones, it is definitely not one of those cars that has had extensive metal work due to rust or extensive damage. The gaps are consistent with an original car and the reassembly after the paint work was not difficult. I have all of the work in progress pictures that validates its impeccable condition, an inspection of the under carriage will also prove it as well. The body work included panel painting, door jambs, trunk and the engine compartment. All of the original sealer was removed and replace. All of the weatherstripping was replaced as well the bright work. The majority of the reproduction parts came from Scott Drake Industries. The entire powertrain was rebuilt, this includes;
* Engine (Original 289, it was at Standard Bore)
* Transmission (Cruise-O-Matic and Torque Converter)
* Rear End
* RadiatorThe front and rear suspension was completely rebuilt which includes all of the soft and hard components. All of the fuel and brakes lines were replaced with original reproduction hard / soft lines, clips and hardware. The interior work includes a professionally ( American Sunroof & Upholstery in Dallas) installed headliner and seat upholstery. New door panels, armrests, instrument panel and tons of misc items. The original console was re-installed as it was it very good condition. The major upgrades and modifications include: Engine
A mild cam that idles smoothly but improves the acceleration and provides that car sound for a mature driver through a set of ceramic shorty headers that is coupled to custom professionally fabricated GT true dual exhaust through the rear valance that is topped off chrome tips. An edlebrock aluminum intake manifold that is below a 650 cfm Holley with an electric choke. The original AC system was retrofitted with a modern system that came from Old Air Inc in Fort Worth. The system blows cold for the Texas hot summer cruising system. The valve covers and breather are from Ford Racing. Brakes
The brake system was retrofitted with a power brake system that is the same as offered in 1966 as an option with a modern design. The front brakes were fitted with Disc's using Kelsey Hayes style calipers for safety. You can confidently drive this car knowing that you, your passengers and the other cars around are safe driving a vintage car with an excellent brake system. Transmission
The original transmission went through a major rebuild that was completed by a technician that has more than 40 years worth of experience. The torque converter was replaced with a TCI converter that a stock stall speed. A mild shift kit was installed which provides crisp and smooth shifts. Interior
The original black interior was professionally restored which retains the original 8 track. I did not attempt to operate the 8 track, it is reinstalled and looks great as a conversation piece. A 400 Watt Kenwood Amplifier was installed out of sight and pipes out your streaming (via Bluetooth) music to 2 front kick panel and 2 package tray speakers. Tires and Wheels
The wheels are vintage American Racing wheels that were professionally restored which includes resurfaced, powder coating and truing up. These are not reproduction wheels. The wheels are wrapped with a set of BF Goodrich Radial TA's. A complete set of Ford Mustang monogrammed floor mats to match the interior color. When you are waiting for you next cruise, the car comes with a car cover to protect her for the elements. The car runs like you would expect, the sound from the exhaust blasts authority from the rear but the cabin is quiet due to extensive sound deadening. This car was carefully and mythologically restored, I wanted to maintain as many original parts and components, what could not be restored was replaced with high quality production parts. I am very proud of this car and will expect that the new owner will cherish and enjoy this car for long period of time and hopefully pass it on. I have the clear Texas blue title. The car can be inspected at my shop. I would be happy to help the buyer with transportation however the costs are the responsibility of the seller. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. The car is offered for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction. This car is being sold as-is.
Good Luck
