This beautiful 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria features the rare and desirable Skyliner glass roof. The Fairlane in 1955 was Ford's top-line model, and while the expensive transparent top only sold 1,999 units, they helped propel Ford to its best sales year since 1923. Both the hard top and glass top Crown Victorias shared the flashy chrome "basket handle," or "tiara," which flowed up one B-pillar, across the roof, and down the other, as well as the trademark stainless-steel "Fairlane stripe" on the side. The glass roof was built in such low numbers, it is rumored that some roofs were dealer installed. Although it looks factory, it is the responsibility of the buyer to determine if that is the case with this beauty.
Finished in "Coral Mist", this beauty benefits from a well preserved older restoration that has recently been refreshed. Although not born in these colors, this color combination is correct for Ford in 1955. The chrome Fairlane stripe, B-pillar tiara, and chrome bumpers with optional overrides are in great condition and sparkle with brilliance. Also looking great are the dual A-pillar mounted search lights, the rear fender skirts, and "Continental Kit" spare tire. With the brilliant brightwork and nicely maintained paint and interior, this car looks very fresh.
The engine bay of this Crown Victoria looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. Surfaces clean enough to eat from. Featuring Ford's new-for-1954 Y-block V8 displacing 272 cubic inches (4.5L), the "U" code engine with 2-barrel carburetor and single exhaust produces a healthy 162 hp. The silver-gray air cleaner, black valve covers, and bright orange block gleam with fresh paint. The engine bay indeed appears to reflect the 837 miles rolled on the odometer since being refreshed.
There's more on the inside than low mileage numbers. 1955 Fords featured panoramic windshields, in which the A-pillars are vertical, giving the driver exceptional visibility. The front power bench seat complements the exterior and is upholstered in coral vinyl with black cloth inserts. The matching rear bench seat features a fold-down center armrest for that extra touch of luxury. Upholstery, carpets and headliner all show as new. The interior finish and chrome are smooth and bright, and power windows add a touch of convenience. The view outward through the transparent top is sure to bring a smile.
The rarest of 1955 Fords, this car is an incredible find. The restoration quality is excellent, with attention to detail in all respects. At home on display or on the road, it will positively delight its new owner.
