I have been lucky enough to have this 1932 FORD 3-window Coupe twice in my lifetime! First, I bought it from the original builder/owner in the Tampa Bay area back in 2013. He had built the car as an advertising piece for his shop, and drove it relentlessly, putting just over 31,000 miles on it over a 4 year period, mainly on event trips like the HRPT, Cruisin’ the Coast, and various Rod runs. It was a proven and reliable long-hauler then, and it continues that tradition today! I sold it to a friend, who had fun taking it to local events and cruise nights throughout Florida, amassing trophies and having it featured on a number of event banners and articles along the way. His focus is now on other interests, and I happy to get the car back from him with only 32,300 miles on the functional odometer. Except for maintenance items and a fresh battery installed recently, the car is exactly as it was when I last had it, and is an exceptional example of a professionally built, reliable show car that is capable of taking you anywhere you want to drive it. It has an Outlaw 3-window fiberglass body, which has stayed in incredible condition with no evidence of cracks, splits, or damage to it. Outlaw bodies feature hand-laminated, one-piece construction with complete wood/steel reinforcement in floor pan. D-Select Poplar is used because the expansion rate is the most compatible to fiberglass than any other wood, which means the wood never contacts the outside skin of the car alleviating transfer marks. A filled roof with a 3-5/8” chop gives it JUST the right look, without sacrificing headroom, and at 5’11” I can sit with about 2” of clearance.
The hood is easily removable, with front and rear sliding catches on each side to keep it in place, and the car looks great with the hood on, or off. Grille shell sits just right, and is in remarkable condition as well. Everything was treated to multiple coats of GM Velocity Yellow which still shines bright and clean to this day thanks to regular detailing and a lifetime of indoor climate-controlled storage. It has a PERFECT dusting of pearl on it to dance a little in the light. No bubbles, no blistering, no major scuffs or damage. You may find a handful or so truly minor marks like little stone chips or something if you crawl around it enough, but it looks more like a 3,000 mile build than one that has experienced 32k. All of the windows are lightly tinted, and show no damage or issues. Windshield has been treated to a Ceramic Pro coating to allow the water to just blow off should you get caught in a rainstorm, but the wiper arm for the driver side is still intact should you want to add one down the road. All of the exterior chrome is in exceptional condition, with no flaking, damage, or disrepair, and everything is cleaned to a shimmering gleam. Wheels are in amazing condition, with no curb marks or issues, and they are cleaner than a Winn-Dixie chicken. Fronts are wrapped in Michelin 135SR15 radials, and the back gets massive HOOSIER 31x16.50R15 Pro Street radials. All are in great condition, with about 2,000 miles on them since installation. The body sits on a custom-made Deuce Frame Company frame that was pinched in the front for the perfect look, and finished in the same Velocity Yellow Pearl. Front suspension is handled by a TCI dropped axle system, with disc brakes and adjustable 4-link. Rear gets an adjustable 4-link from TCI holding a narrowed 9” POSI smoothie rear with MOSER axles, and 3.73 gearing. Drum brakes help slow things down out back. Almost the entire underside is painted in matching Velocity Yellow, and shows light marks and scuffs from debris from being driven, but is still in great condition.
Wiring and brake lines are as hidden and cleanly installed as they could be, and everything has been regularly greased and maintained since build completion to make sure the car was ready to go at a moment notice. The motor was built brand new for the build, so it has just about 33k miles on it, as does the transmission. Oil changes at 3,000 mile intervals are recommended. It has been on a steady diet of Valvoline Premium 10W-30 since built, and we hope the new owner will continue to use the same. It is a 350 bored .40 over, balanced and blueprinted with a mild roller cam, aluminum heads, and DEMON carb. Plugs were done about 600 miles ago, and it doesn’t require any maintenance at this time. It sounds amazing burbling through the custom coated long tube headers that flow into side pipes. The usual dress up chrome goodies are installed like Edelbrock valve covers, chrome alternator, chrome and billet pulleys, and massive chrome air cleaner. MSD handles ignition duties, and American auto wire handles the electrical with a modern fuse block system to cover the few electrical components the car has. A/C lines ae heat wrapped to keep them cool from the headers, and everything shows clean and neat, with only a few signs of use and enjoyment visually. The SuperGlide powerglide transmission was built for the car by JW, and it has B&M Ratchet Pro shifter to help in gear selection. Shifts are light and silky smooth. Mash the pedal and you have one long gear to get you moving and an even taller one to set you up on the highway. The car is ridiculously stable at all speeds, and tracks better than almost every Rod I have been in. Even the big rear tires are just small enough to NOT catch road grooves. The original owner/builder used it to travel all around the southeastern United States, so set it up to more than capable on the freeway, without sacrificing in town zip. Braking is solid and sure, and the car scrubs off speed without any pulling or excess fade. Ride is pretty darn good for a Hot Rod, and it takes regular road bumps in stride. You still need to be mindful over really big bumps just because of the smaller front wheels, but you can drive it like a regular car for the most part. Headlights, hi beams, turn signals, parking lights, dash lights, and brake lights all work like they should. Suicide doors have bear claw latches to make sure nothing accidentallypops open. The interior was built for the car specifically, with cut-down custom bucket seats finished in an automotive grade tweed finish of black with gray insets. Door panels match, with the black surrounded by yellow piping, and the firewall, back wall, pillars kick panels and rear panels are all finished out to perfection in gray.
Gray carpeting shows light wear, but nothing a set of floor mats doesn't cover. Three large A/C vents help everyone keep cool, and vintage A/C controls are easy to reach and fit the interior perfectly. A/C lines are heat-wrapped up front neat the engine and exhaust to keep things cool. Light switch and wiper control are unobtrusive little black switches on the left of the steering wheel, and dash itself is super clean with a full set of VDO Vintage gauges to monitor vitals, high beam and signal indicator lamps, and the key switch. Chrome iDidit tilt column looks amazing, and is topped by a lather wrapped 4 spoke slotted billet steering wheel. Driver seat floor houses the cover for the brake master, and it is easy to access and fill if needed. Everything is clean, neat, and shows wonderfully, with no seam pulls, rips, tears, or staining. Trunk is finished out the same, and is clean and neat, but does show light wear in spots from being used as a trunk. Overall, this car shows like it was just built a few years ago, NOT 32k miles ago. I am so happy that it got to come back onto my radar again, and that it was expertly cared for and maintained while it was away from me. If you are looking for a drive-anywhere, proven and capable hot rod that doesn’t require regular wrenching, and will collect you trophies galore, this is the right car for you.
