1967 Ford Galaxie 500XL Description

1967 Ford Galaxie 500

This was a car I purchased approximately 10 years ago. It was a barn find from Georgia and had never seen bad weather. The biggest problem was the Georgia red clay. This is a southern car that had factory air conditioning installed. All original AC components are included with the sale but not currently installed. Originally an FE390 - 2 barrel car with an automatic FMX transmission with on the column shift. Many modifications have been made to enhance performance and provide better comfort than the original car.

Engine was upgraded to a Ford FE 428CJ motor and was converted to a TKO 600 five-speed manual gear box. Original engine and transmission are included with the car if wanted. Original engine has low hours on a typical .030” oversize pistons and all new bearings and internals rebuilt cast iron heads. Intake is Edelbrock Performer.Transmission was operational when removed from the car.

Engine:

Ford FE 428CJ block with new internals. Engine block was proven a true CJ block by evidence of the cast in freehand "C" in the rear of the block and the "drill bit test".Engine has been bored and fitted with ICON forged pistons. A new Scat 9000 series crank and Scat I-beam rods and 7/16" ARP rod bolts is the base for the bottom end.The crank Is internally balanced requiring zero counterbalance on the flywheel. Assembly was balanced statically and dynamically. Engine has Nitrous Oxide system fitted (kit is NOS Powershot 125 HP) Other engine features include:

· Canton oil pan with windage tray. Pan is designed with trap door and deep sump. Holds approximately 9 quarts.

· Blueprinted HV oil pump from Precision Oil Pumps

· Heavy duty oil pump drive shaft

· Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold with Holley 670 Street Avenger Carburetor

· High flow cleanable air cleaner with top intake for max air flow

· Edelbrock Performer Aluminum Heads

· Precision Oil Pumps billet roller rockers complete with billet stands and new chromoly steel shafts. One of the nicest FE rocker arm systems available.

· Cam is a Competition Cams with hydraulic roller lifters – mild cam allowing low end and good vacuum. Intake .521 lift 282 duration Exh .532 lift and 288 duration

· Comp Cams push rods

· Double roller timing chain

· Edelbrock water pump

· Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump

· MSD billet distributor

· MSD 6 Plus ignition box

· NOS Poweshot 125 Nitrous Oxide system

· High power single wire alternator

Gear Box:

This car has a Tremec TKO 600 five speed manual gear box with pistol grip shifter. Centerforce Steel Flywheel is neutral balanced with Centerforce Dual Friction clutch which is actuated with a Ram hydraulic release bearing with hydraulic cylinder and reservoir on the firewall near clutch pedal. Fifth gear overdrive makes highway driving a breeze at a low RPM.

Body and Frame

Body and frame all original. Front right fender replaced for dent. The body was repainted approximately 8 years ago. Original color was light blue (baby blue color) and now is painted Acapulco Blue which was a popular Ford color in the 1960s. Showing some rust in the typical areas but all easily fixed and a few chips from wear and tear. Bumpers are original and are showing some rust. Trim is all original and in excellent condition. A solid car with only minor rust.

Hood is modified with 69 Cougar functional hood scoop with direct access to air cleaner.

Trunk is solid original metal and has 10 lb. blue NOS nitrous tank installed. Battery has also been relocated to the trunk in a marine box for better weight distribution. Original jack and spare tire installed.

Suspension:

Front suspension was completely stripped to bare metal, primed, painted, and new bushings and ball joints installed on the upper and lower control arms. The steel stamped lower control arms were “boxed in” to reinforce and stiffen the factory components. Power steering box was rebuilt. Spindles from a 1975 full size ford were installecd to allow for disc brakes up front. All new bearings installed. A new heavy duty sway bar was installed and all hardware was upgraded. New KYB shocks installed. New centerlink and tie rod ends installed and alignment completed.

Rear suspension on this car was a factory 3-link. For added performance, a 4-link conversion was done using a second factory upper control arm on the other side by installing the factory bracket. New bushings installed. Car has a factory Ford 9 inch rear with upgraded Detroit Locker Posi unit and 3.40 gear ratio (original gears were 2.79). An adjustable panhard bar was installed to allow for left/right adjustment and for stiffness. An aftermarket sway bar was added to keep the car flat in the turns. Shocks are KYB.

Brakes:

Upgraded to power brakes with 8” dual booster/master from Master Power Brakes.

Front brakes upgraded to disc from drum. All brake parts are new. Upgraded to 1975 full size ford (Gran Torino) front spindles and disc brake components. Available at any part store such as Advance Auto. All new brake lines installed.

Rear brakes are original factory drum brakes. New brake cylinders and brake lines installed.

Wheels:

Car is running staggered Ridler 18 inch wheels with Sumitomo 245/45/18 rubber in front and 275/40/18 in the rear.

Fuel System:

Fuel tank was removed and fully flushed and coated and modified with dual port pickups from the lowest point. The two lines go to a primary filter and then to Holley red fuel pump to the motor. Final fuel filter located under hood. Fuel line is plumbed to allow engine run on Edelbrock mechanical pump (bypasses the electric pump using check valve) or with fuel pump activated, both pumps operate in series. All new fuel line and fittings installed.

Interior:

The interior was completely redone approximately three years ago. Original bench seats front and rear. Seats all refitted with new OEM covers and new cushion material. Door panels all new. All new window rubber and soft seals. New dash cover, kicker panels, sound proofing and carpet, and custom floor mats. New headliner installed. New sail panels installed. Rear deck recovered with fabric and new 6x9 speakers installed. Pioneer CD/stereo with Bluetooth. Front dash speaker upgraded and operates as a single forward channel.

Exhaust:

Headers are Crites Long Tube with 3 inch collectors. Headers are ceramic coated for longevity, cooler performance and good looks. The collectors connect to a 3 inch stainless X pipe and then to Stainless Flowmaster 50 Delta flow mufflers to 3 inch NASCAR type outlets in front of each rear wheel.

All supporting documents of parts and purchases will transfer with the car. A second set of wheels and tires is included with the car. Many spares and original parts are also included if the owner wants them. The original 390 engine and FMX transmission is available to take. All transportation by buyer. Engine and tranny located in Ronkonkoma, NY and will be up to the buyer to pick up. Original seat belts, radiator, AC compressor and condenser coil, and many other spares go with the car.

The car is not a show car, but could be with some work. I enjoy driving this classic. There is a reserve. Good luck in bidding. Car can be seen in person in Island Park, NY.
