1962 ford Galaxie M-Code 390 401 HP 3 x 2 Tri-power Pre- 406 427 Vintage FE
1962 Ford Galaxie Description
From time to time we run across hidden old classic cars like this 1962 Galaxie M-code 390 401 HP 3 speed manual with OD and 4:11 gears from the factory. It was discovered in a back yard close to Cookeville, TN. (where we own a restoration shop) from original owner. We are MidSouthern Restoration in Cookeville TN and can be easily googled for web site. The car was parked in same place for 41 years and was last tagged in 1970. It was parked outside. We got the car to the shop and after a little cleaning it became apparent what we had. The dual point distributor was out of the block and on the front seat looking like it was being repaired. We plugged the hole and proceeded to steam clean. The odometer shows 11322 miles and is believed to be original. The big FE andcomponents are factory intact, even the exhaust system from the cast iron headers. The radiator hose have Ford part numbers on them and all factory hose clamps are in place. The 3 x 2 still has the factory hoses and band clamps used back then and everything matches and still has the air cleaner gaskets in place. The distributor has the FOMOCO logo on the inside.Once cleaned up, the oil was changed and the motor was primed with lube from tool and a drill. The BF-32 Auto-liteplugs were pulled and some transmission fluid was put in cylinder bores. The motor would not turn over with socket wrench on front of crank so the inspection pan was pulled and a pry barimmediately moved the motor. It was rolled over 2-3 times and aratchetcould then be used but the FE still has some tight spots. The linkage and carbs were lubed up and they were freed to operatehas they should. After some research webelievethis car came with the optional 3 x 2 in the trunk and was dealer installed. In the glove box was found a 6 page Ford instruction sheet how to install and set and tune and include Ford part numbers for the set up. Also found was High Perf pamphlet loaded with Ford Part Numbers for racing option parts. Also the original owners manual and a complete set of instructions for the SW gauges. The motor and drive train are 100% complete and appears never tampered with other than the addition of a Stewart Warner gauge set from the very early days. You can see the plumbing and tach sending unit that matches gauges. Plumbing not the cleanest looking but back then it was more important to keep check on the vitalstatisticsof the big mill. One front brake was sticking so the hub came off and revealed huge 3 inch brake shoes with minimal wear. The car rolls very easy now.The body has some dents and rust. The dent look like a lawn mower hit the car while it was parked for many years. The trunk floor pan is rusted has well has hood and trunk lid. The rockers panels have rust and radiator core support is rusted out. The chassis and floor boards look good and all the factory mat, carpet and insulation was removed to inspect the floors. There is a couple pin holes butrelatively solid. The interior is complete but headliner fell down and bows are still in place. Door panels are week. The Stainless trim you see missing was gone when we got the car. The drivers side fender trim fell off when steam cleaning has the retainingmoldingclips were rusted off. We put those parts along with factory jack in the trunk. The car also came with 6 now rare factory Kelsey Hayes wheels confirmed by a well know Ford Guru. The four bias ply tires (two rear snow tires) were replaced with a set of used rollers. The wheels are 15 inch. Two of the wheels have rusted bead spots where they were sitting but can be repaired. Also two original hub caps were in the trunk. We have many pictures of the car and if interested in one specific area email me with needs and I can get more. Car is for sale locally and can disqualify the auction if sold. Bid accordingly on this very restore-able or parts car 62 Galaxie.
