Summary
This van was originally purchased in New Mexico and still resides in the state - an ideal, arid climate to help preserve such a gem. This treasure was purchased by the current owner in 2013 when a restoration of mechanical components was begun, including the professionally rebuilt engine. Many other components of the vehicle were checked, restored and replaced as needed.Structurally and mechanically the van is in sound, survivor condition anddrives nicely. The original 302 V8 is very strong and the transmission is solid. Manual steering & brakes provide the feel of the early vehicles.Paint is original, factory Ford “Robins Egg Blue” and has developed a highly desirable patina over its 50-year life. The driver and passenger seats are original - the bench seat is not original yet has seat belts and is very convenient when camping as it folds down into a bed and serves as storage space. Carpeted floor and wood paneling are nice added features.
The van is as intended - super fun, useful and groovy. It has received countless complements and several offers to purchase.
History
•Original registered owners in Albuquerque, NM.Purchased new in 1970 by previous owner's grandfather.
•Vehicle is insured & registered in NM with Horseless Carriage plates. Clean title of current, third registered owner.
Mileage
•Mileage indicates 32,818 on the odometer - seldom driven over the past 15 years (~300 miles in the past 3 yrs).
•Brake drums on the van have only moderate wear (have been turned/honed) and were completely rebuilt in 2014.
Body
Super short 105.5” wheelbase - hence, this is a true "Shorty"; attractive Robins Egg Blue color on a very rare 13-window E-100 with a relatively straight body throughout. Handsome, popular body style.Front driver & passenger fenders have had minor scrapes/dings - other "bumps & bruises" are here and there (see pics).Undercarriage condition indicates the van has resided in a dry climate.
Rust:Overall, the body is sound condition - nice patina on factory paint. As seen in the images, bodywork has not been carried out, rust is evident around the wheels and lower body areas. Underside is clean - good frame - and has typical, expected surface rust.
Engine
The original Ford 302 V8 motor was rebuilt in 2014 (balanced & blueprinted - bored .0020 over) and has no more than about 600 miles since the rebuild. Rebuilt 2-barrel Motorcraft Carburetor with NEW Electronic Ignition & very strong 850 CCA battery.
Transmission
REBUILT Ford C6 during previous owner's ownership, around 2010. Likely less than 3,000 miles on the rebuilt transmission.
Rear Axle & Drivetrain
NEW universal joints, with sound & strong rear axle. Has hard-to-find original dog dish hubcaps to finish off this amazing ride.
