This is a mostly restored 1957 Thunderbird that has been in the family since purchased in 1973. Its engine was rebuilt and transmission overhauled in Pennsylvania in 1982. The car then moved to Connecticut where it was given a frame-on restoration in 2005, including a new windshield. It has been in retirement in The Villages FL since 2006 where it received a new interior, convertible soft top and hard top liner in 2008. While not really a show car, it gets its share of oohs and aahs and thumbs-up while out on the road.
Engine is a 312 V8 with a Holley High Performance four barrel carburetor, Ford-o-matic transmission, power steering, power seats, power windows. Mileage is 91360 as of listing.
What doesn’t work: The original Town & Country radio played once-upon-a-time but needs some new tubes to sing again. Windshield washer components are here but not put in place to function. The original tachometer cable was disconnected because it was making noise. Interior lights are not controlled by switches in doors. There is a scuff on the rear bumper chrome. Cigarette lighter and dash clock do not function.
What’s new. New brakes, new heater coil, new Holley High Performance carburetor (the original comes with the car) new fuel filter and bowl, new fuel tank with stainless steel float, new battery.
Miscellany: The Thunderbird’s original color was bronze and the original bronze tonneau cover comes with the car. (The color had been changed before purchase in 1973.) I prefer the look of the car with no chrome on the fender skirts, but the fender skirt chrome trim comes with the car. There is an extra steering wheel. Chrome knobs on heater controls are from a 1966 Thunderbird.
