1979 Ford Bronco XLT 2nd owner, less than 100K original miles
1979 Ford Bronco XLT Description
1979 Ford Bronco XLT
Original Montana Bronco, was bought by first owner in 1981 after Ford dealership used it as a parts delivery rig for a few years, I bought it from that owner in December 2010, Bronco is a two owner rig with low miles - only 96103.
Specs - Ranger XLT, 400M, Automatic Tranny, 205 Transfer case, FACTORY front and rear limited slip differentials (more on this later), FACTORY high back bucket seats, quad shock front suspension, FACTORY roll bar, AC - works great, cruise control, original interior / carpet, door map pockets. From the details about the Bronco, the only items missing from the factory is the rear window sliders in the removable top and rear sway bar. Bronco is two tone Brown / Cream with Tan interior.
The Bronco is very clean and original, the only rust is a small area over the rear drivers wheel, typical of Fords of the vintage, the area is in the pictures, it is about 8 inches long and barely 1/2 tall. When I bought the Bronco there was the typical rock chips on the bottom of the rig, I sanded and prepped and applied Herculiner front to rear, inside the door jams, up to the lower racetrack chrome trim for protection, the inside of the wheel wells are solid. The rear trim on drivers side was missing when I purchased, there is a small dent in same area. I'll look at my spare parts and see if I have a chrome trim piece, it was missing when I bought the Bronco. The hood on the passenger side does have a small dent, it was also from the original owner. The rear gate was also covered in Hurculiner for protection. Under carriage / frame is clean and rust free, except for the typical surface rust from being a 40+ year old rig. I have left the under carriage and frame in the original cleaned condition so you can see how clean it really is.
Original 400M motor and tranny, running great, oil pressure is high and keeps it cool with the factory 4 core radiator. The AC is all there and hooked up and it works great. 2 bbl carb was rebuilt a few years ago.
As mentioned it is a FACTORY 3.50 front and rear limited slips, but I removed those axles, still have them in their original condition, and used another set of 1979 Ford Bronco 3.50 open axles from my many parts Broncos and rebuilt the axles with Yukon 4.88 gears with factory Ford rear locker, to keep it correct, and limited slip front setup. This Bronco will climb whatever you point it at. It is a factory quad shock front end. At the time of the axle rebuild, I dropped in a 'true' 4 inch RANCHO lift, NO lift blocks here, FULL 4 inch rear multi leaf springs, they are 6 leaf rear springs sitting on correct spring pad to correct angle. I also changed over from rubber brake lines to braided stainless steel in both front and rear. If you look closely, you will see the front sway bar is removed for flex with playing off road, I will include that in the sale or will mount it back to Bronco before auction ends. Bronco is currently sitting on ProComp 33x12.5 R15 tires with 9/32 - 10/32 tread remaining, so better than 50% tread life left, rims are 15 x 8 Modern brand. I have ran 35 inch Goodyears without any problem or tire rubbing with the 4 inch lift. I would switch back and forth between 33s and 35s depending on time of year.
On the front of the Bronco is an 'original' Ford optioned WARN winch mount / brush guard. Mounted to it is a Smittybuilt 9000 pound winch with steel cable. Also there is 2 - 24 inch light bars and a set of round light, these aren't hooked up but the two light bars are wired and ready. I pulled the factory 'simple' tow hooks and replaced with late model Ford F-150 tow hooks for better strength. On the rear is a custom made winch cradle mounted to the factory bumper location, inside is another Smittybuilt 9000 pound winch and more Ford F-150 tow hooks. On the spare tire mount is a plate with hooks for a shovel and space for a hi lift jack and brackets. There is a heavy duty set of rock sliders installed, they are bolted to frame and stick out from side of Bronco about the width of the tires, perfect for getting in and out the Bronco.
The interior is loaded up with FACTORY high back buckets seats and matching original rear seat. As you can see in pics, the drivers seat does have a small tear on the outer edge, typical of Ford seats from getting in and out. I have some extra seat piping to fix it. Both seats and rear are in wonderful condition for age. Carpet is original and pretty darn clean and still in great condition. Plastic trim on top isn't broke though drivers side does has a small missing piece. Rear window works perfectly, goes up and down without any problem. I will say this - the key to roll up rear window is a bit touchy, sometimes you need to wiggle it to make it work but works great from dash switch.
I'm sure I'm missing some other descriptions, so if you have any questions please mail me and I'll get right back to you or if you need more pics, just ask and I can send more.
Bronco is located in Lincoln MT, western MT, 80 miles from Missoula / 80 miles from Great Falls and 50 miles from Helena. Bronco has always been in a heated garage since I bought it, original owner also kept it in a garage.
Payment is due upon pickup, if you need it shipped, I can see about helping you out there. I'd like $500 down payment within 2 days of auction close. Remaining payment in cash or cashiers check. Title is clean and ready to go.
Thanks for looking and again, if you have any questions please ask.
