1967 Ford Mustang Description

1967 SHELBY GT500
This 1967 Shelby fastback is one of 2,048 of the first GT500s built by SHELBY. It was completed on January 20, 1967 and shipped January 23, 1967 to Hayward Motors in Hayward, CA. This car tracks its history of the last 9 owners as shown in the Shelby registry. This fastback was inspected before undergoing a complete rotisserie restoration to factory specifications. Looking as it did back in July 1967. It rides on its correct Shelby 10 spoke factory aluminum wheels and Goodyear Polyglass tires with a matching spare. The interior features the correct Shelby gauges, shoulder harnesses, an original wood steering wheel and an AM radio. It is powered by a 428/355hp V8 Police Interceptor engine mated to its original 4 Speed Manual transmission; This car has documented ownership history in the SAAC registry tracking the 9 owners over the last 53 years.
Shelby fitted the new GT500 model with an integrated roll bar, inboard fog lights and Cougar-sourced sequential taillights. This Shelby is finished in its original dark moss green with the white LeMans stripe. Because this car was ordered as a California car the High beam lights were changed to an outboard high beam along with the Thermactor addition for smog control. This car is documented with copies of its dealer work orders, Shelby documentation and its original Owner’s Manual, along with a deluxe Marti Report.
The model year 1967 was the first year Carroll Shelby called for significant modifications to the Mustang’s exterior design, insisting on a longer nose to differentiate his GTs from the factory cars. Doing so required the use of fiberglass parts that were notoriously ill-fitting, That year was also the first time Ford redesigned the Mustang, giving it, among other changes, a bigger engine bay to (finally) accommodate a big-block option. While Ford offered its 390, the Shelby American team upped the ante by putting the 428 CI Police Interceptor V-8 and the Duel 4 barrel carburetors in the newly minted Mustang GT500.
This car’s original matching-numbers engine—fed by dual 600 CFM carburetors and venting waste gases through an original Thermactor exhaust system—is paired with a Toploader 4-speed manual transmission. The Shelby is finished in its paint code Ford #2039-A, Dark Moss Green and a white stripe color scheme, The high-beams mounted outboard on the grille indicate a design change for cars built in 1967. Inside, much of the car’s original black interior was retained during its restoration. Documentation that comes with the GT500 includes some original dealer work orders the Shelby American automotive report and a Deluxe Marti Report, along with the original owner’s manual.
