1957 Ford Thunderbird E-Bird Description
Go ahead and get excited, because your eyes aren't deceiving you. This is a real-deal, verifiable E-code 1957 Ford Thunderbird. That means dual quads atop the rebuilt 312 cubic inch V8, a sought-after color combination, a desirable porthole hardtop, and a restoration was carried out to a standard befitting of this car's pedigree. In a sea of early Thunderbirds, THIS is the Baby Bird to own.
It shouldn't surprise you that this car was restored to attract attention, and we absolutely love the fresh look and great condition of this recently restored early T-Bird. They stuck to the original Thunderbird specifications with this one, giving it a coat of Colonial White paint (an upgrade over the original Code Y Inca Gold in our opinion), although the quality and shine are simply dialed in. Most would call this beauty show-quality, or at the very least top-of-the-line quality for a car that can actually still be driven, not just shown at Amelia and Pebble Beach. For many, the '57 Thunderbird is a favorite, with its more pronounced fins that were a part of the 1950s automotive landscape that has remained in the memory of the motoring zeitgeist ever since. With a presentation and pedigree worthy of most competition, this car shows the results of a no-expense-spared restoration with only 6,512 miles on the clock, which means it's going to be filling that trophy case for years to come. The chrome and every single component on the car was buffed and shined before it was reinstalled, so it glitters no matter where you look. Even the undercarriage is practically nice enough to eat off of, and one look underneath will tell you everything you need to know about how much work went into making this a Baby Bird to remember. Very, very impressive. And in case you actually have the stones to drive this E-Bird out in the rain, it comes equipped with both a port-hole hardtop and a full soft top that will help to cover your shame.
The interior is restored to the same standards using correct, high-quality red vinyl that does a pretty good impersonation of leather. The wide bench looks more like two close-coupled buckets and makes the sporty T-Bird strictly a 2-seater. Everything inside has been refinished to show standards, including the gorgeous door panels, exceptional dual ring steering wheel, and precisely detailed gauges inside the factory, engine-turned bezel. Thunderbird fans will also delight to see the shifter for the automatic transmission below instead of a manual, because toe-tapping a clutch pedal on a Baby Bird with a size 10 shoe or higher can be a daunting task. For potential judging purposes, there are no real "updates" or modifications to any of the interior systems, and even the original AM radio remains in its engine-turned panel in the dash. Other options include power windows, a power seat, and a factory A/C unit under the dash that's been upgraded to run R134a refrigerant that blows cold air into the cabin. The spare tire moved back into the trunk for 1957, and this one is neatly finished with a correct reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire.
As nice as it is, this Thunderbird's status is almost entirely due to the E-code engine under the hood, complete with dual quads. With 270 horsepower, it was a neat experiment in creating a Corvette-eater that could still cruise the streets of Beverly Hills. Topped by the distinctive air cleaner, the 312 cubic inch V8 was fully rebuilt to stock specs and fully detailed with a dress-up kit. Every detail is correct, from the hardware securing the valve covers to the reproduction battery, and it runs as it should with a healthy bark from the dual exhaust. You can see bright red engine paint on the oil pan from below, and take a few minutes to enjoy the fully detailed chassis that's ready for the most demanding judges. And for style, nothing compares to a set of chrome Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels wearing 205/75/14 Coker Classic wide whitewall radials.
There are only a few Thunderbirds that are more desirable than this, and they all have superchargers. If you've been looking for the one to complete your collection and compete at any show around, this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Call now!
