1969 Ford F350 Tow Truck Description

1969 Ford F350 Tow Truck

Most of us, for obvious reasons, never want to see a wrecker. It's not like you're calling one to get a ride home on Saturday night. They are the unsung heroes of the trucking world, hauling off what's left of our beloved rides after an accident or a breakdown. This life of hard labor is also why you rarely ever see an old wrecker that's in great shape. Heck, you rarely see an old wrecker, period, because a lot of them simply wound up in the scrap heap after the end of their usable life.

For consignment an F350 Ford Chassis and drivetrain with a tow truck package on back. A complete body off restoration was done approximately 20 years ago, but it still retains its luster from that restoration. At the time the cab was replaced, and mechanicals were refreshed. This Texas truck has seen service, and all is working perfectly. Lights are on in case of emergency or you just want to be seen, and a cushioned push start or just a push is available with the wide front bumper. All in fine shape, ready for any wreck that may come along.

Exterior
Save for the rubber covered "pusher" panel in front she's all F350 from 1969. Bathed in beautiful Toreador Red from Ford, its presenting nicely with its stock shined grille lighted marker light side badging and single door cab. A shined diamond plate sidestep running board has been added for easier access to the cab, and this also serves as a mud flap to the front tires. Big rig style side view mirrors are hanging off chromed stanchions, and we see a large vertical mirror and a smaller round wide angle mirror. The top of the cab has the yellow marker lighting as well as a yellow flasher bar for safety when alongside the roads. Here our F350 comes to an end and the tow truck takes over where we see a structure of solid steel bars which is mounted into the frame and housing a winch with strong non rusted cables. This moves rearward and allows towing from another car's frame or anywhere you could attach the hook. Also, there are wheel bars where the truck can slip under the wheels of a disabled car and then lift to move to a desired location. This could also be used to tow parking violators, or just move cars out of the way without an actual hookup. Dual tires are on the back sporting deep dish polished wheels and up front more polished wheels with big rig style nut configuration on the hub. The bed is lined with more diamond plate painted white, and on the back are some extra safety stripes and dual toolboxes that hold any number of accessible tools one may need.

Interior
Again, stock Ford door panels in black vinyl with curved surrounding shiny trimmings, and cranks for the windows. Red painted metal are the surrounds. Inside we note a bench seat, covered in gray crushed velour inserts and shiny darker vinyl bolsters and a center panel. This is in good condition, amazingly not dirty as one would think. The 1969 Ford dash is retained save for an aftermarket Panasonic AM/FM/CD digital radio, and a Moroso power panel to run the exterior lighting. Carpeting is clean and black protected by rubber mats, and the headliner is a black painted chipboard inserted into the red metal surrounding covering of the inside of this cab. We can note some rust as we enter this truck on the driver's door sill at the bottom near the start of the threshold.

Drivetrain
A clean and blue blocked 390ci V8 is shoehorned into the engine bay, which is also very clean. We can note chromed valve covers and a chromed air cleaner cover. Hoses and wiring is all like new, and just a bit of surface rust on the master cylinder reservoir. There is a 4-speed transmission on back and this pushes plenty of power to a Dana 60 rear axle.

Undercarriage
All structurally sound with a solid frame and floorboards. Massive stacked leaf springs are on the dually rear, and upfront we see radius arms and coil springs. Power disc brakes are in front, and power drums for the rear. Slight invasive rust is noted on the front of the driver's rear wheel well. Shiny new mufflers are now on, and all else is nicely presenting underneath.

Drive-Ability
This big F350 Ford lit right up, and after figuring out the lights it was off to our task, to pick up a test drive that had broken down on our test track. She drives nicely, smooth shifting, and plenty of power, and good braking. Sadly, our tow had been scarfed by another legit company, so we did not get to put the winch into action, however it does function well. We were tempted to slide the wheel bars under the boss' car and move it but eventually thought the better of it! A good driver

Here you can have a classic tow truck all in near perfect working condition, and the beneficiary of a 20-year-old restoration which was frame off and included the addition of a new cab. A beautiful looker, as well as fully functional right out of 1969 but you would never think it. Need a lift? Come on in and see for yourself this beauty and you can then confirm I'm not towing you along with this description.
