You are looking at an attractive, powerful, and an original, stock 1957 T-Bird. We are not offering aconcourse correct show car that had a body-off restoration. And, we are not asking you to pay $40K to $60K,or even more still.
Offered for sale is low milage 63-year old classic thatspent most of its life in a garage. Theodometer read 73,609 miles in 2003 when the current owner bought this T-Bird forhis collection. It was recognized by theCommonwealth of Virginia when it issued this T-Bird an Antique Vehicle licensetag. Today, the odometer reads 79,727 miles. Said another way, the seller droveit less than 360 miles a year. That does not mean this T-Bird wasneglected.
Its start right up and runs smoothly. The owner took care ofissues when they arose. Last year, theowner replaced the entire exhaust system from the exhaust heads to the tailpipes. This June, the four-barrel carburetorwas rebuilt.
That said, the owner put less than 500 miles on the car overthe past 15 months. So, we recommend thebuyer have this T-Bird fully checked over before you start off for a long-trip.
You will like this car, as it is. It is one very cool hunk of gorgeous metal. Itgets lots of attention whenever you pull into a parking lot, go for a drive inyour neighborhood, or drive over to a local car show. It is a real head-turner and conversationstarter.
The car’s appearance reveals the care this car received overthe years. It is hard to remember, thatit is 63 years new and was not restored. It has the original Ford parts. It has good bones should you be the kind of collector who wants aproject car for a complete off-the-body restoration. You would not have to hunt down parts fromother collectors, off Ebay, or junk dealers. The frame is straight. Most allof the chrome is original. The chrome onthe front bumper started to peal earlier this year.
That is an easy fix, as you know. The original T-Bird hubcaps look new, and sodoes much of the chrome on the body. Like most T-Birds, the car was entirelyrepainted. Repainting saved the body thecar. Car collectors know that Ford painted its early T-Birds with lacquer. Afterabout 20 years, all T-Bird paint developed check marks. After hand-sanding offthe marks, this T-Bird was repainted in its original color Torch Red. The paintjob protected the body from rust. Theback-quarter panels are fitted withthe original fender skirts and their chrome trim still shines.Theremainder of this T-Bird looks on the outside as would a well maintainedoriginal car in a private collection.
The paint on the engine block shows its age but the originalred color still shows, the round chrome carburetor cover shines, and theartfully finned Thunderbird valve covers are topped with Ford’s Thunderbirdtrademark design. If you want a show car, it would be easy to steam the enginecompartment and add new belts and wires. The inside of the trunk was recoveredwith the same sporty plaid fabric found in the car when it was new. The 1957trim lines are highlighted by newer wide whitewall tires, like those that cameon the car.
This convertible comes with two tops: the optional factoryhardtop painted Colonial White. And, it has a black convertible soft-top,that is near new. The plasticine rearwindow is clear and free of bends and folds.
The interior—believed original—has very little wear andstill looks amazing. Also, it has both wing windows. One was cracked.Evenso, it is an amazing 50’s interior that shows incredibly well.In thecenter of the dash sits the original Town and Country, push button styled AMradio that still works. The red bench seat is draped with pleated ColonialVinyl. And this car haspower steering, power brakes, an electronicignition, and a transmission cooler. These features were new and unusual in 1957. Based in part on itsappearance, this car earned badges from membership in the InternationalClassic Thunderbird Club and the car's participation in the Golden Jubileeevent of the Antique Automotive Club of America.
It is very hard to find an original in this condition. Must see to appreciate,
