1928 Ford Model A 5-WINDOW COUPE Description

1928 Ford Model A 5-Window
HISTORY FORD HOT RODS / STREET RODS
Hot rods are typically old, classic American cars with large engines modified for linear speed. The origin of the term "hot rod" is unclear. A possible origin includes replacement of the camshaft with a new ("hotter") version, sometimes known as a hot stick or hot rod.
The first hot rods were old cars (most often Fords, typically Model T's, 1928s, "31 Model A's, or 1932-34 Model B's), modified to reduce weight. Typical modifications were removal of convertible tops, hoods, bumpers, windshields, and / or fenders; channeling the body; and modifying the engine by tuning and/or replacing with a more powerful type. Wheels and tires were changed for improved traction and handling. "Hot rod" was sometimes a term used in the 1950s as a derogatory term for any car that did not fit into the mainstream. Hot Rodders' modifications were considered to improve the appearance as well, leading to show cars in the 1960s replicating these same modifications along with a distinctive paint job.
Some believe that today's mundane "look-a-like” cars have been the reason for a resurgence of hot-rods. While the focus today is more on driving hot rods over racing them, so the term "Street Rod” was coined to denote a vehicle manufactured prior to 1949, often with a more reliable late model drive train. Street Rodding as it was now known was a different phenomenon than hot rodding, as street rodding was mainly family-oriented. National events are hosted by the National Street Rod Association (NSRA), which also stressed safety as the NHRA did 20 years before.
Today, there is a contemporary movement of traditional hot rod builders, car clubs, and artists who have returned to the roots of hot rodding as a lifestyle. This includes a new breed of traditional hot rod builders, artists, and styles, as well as classic style car clubs. Events like Grease Orama feature traditional hot rods and the greaser lifestyle. Magazines like Ol' Skool Rodz, Gears and Gals, and Rat-Rods and Rust Queens cover events and people.
SUMMARY - THIS MODEL "A” HOT ROD
This car epitomizes the classic hot rod and was constructed with excellent components to have the appearance of a California Hot Rod that would have been built in the 1950s. In fact, with few exceptions, the car is very close to the famous Model A that "John Milner” drove in the classic movie American Graffiti. It's a classic 5-window ALL steel Coupe, has been put on a major diet to reduce weight (including the elimination of fenders, a 2 ½” roof chop, removal of heavy hood panels, and other unnecessary items.
So, what was added? How about the addition of a "built” early 70s Camaro engine, complete with "3 Deuces” sitting atop a, Edelbrock manifold. With a 350TH Chevy transmission. The car performs very nicely due to its low weight and considerable torque from the American V8. Highlights include:
- Clear transferrable title with RARE & desirable front & rear 1928 Texas license plates ($750+) (Can be included / negotiable)
- Sits right, runs great, looks incredible - sorted, and ready to enjoy!
- ALL steel with 2 ½” professionally done chop with side, rear and front glass
- Front windshield opens and is adjustable for increased ventilation / air flow
- Painted in high gloss black with black tuck n roll / red piping interior
- 1970s Camaro V8 / Tri Power (3-Two Barrel GM carburetors)
- 350 Turbo Chevy transmission
- Ford rear end
- Boxed & strengthened chassis (considerably better / stronger than stock chassis)
- Exposed headers with removable plates to run "uncorked” on cruise nights!
- Side pipes with chrome tips
- Edelbrock aluminum intake
- Offenhauser logo valve covers
- Mallory electronic ignition
- MSD coil & ignition wires
- Braided fuel lines
- Firewall mounted fuel pressure gauge
- Braided oil lines and Fram spin-on filter
- Aluminum oil pan
- Polished / chrome transmission pan
- Front mounted period style horn
- Front drop axle
- Custom alloy front finned drums covering front disc brakes
- Stainless brake lines
- Classic whitewall tires
- Painted wheels with Ford logo center hub caps
- Front tilt out windshield / fully functional roll-up windows and working door handles
- Front custom lights with built in turn signals
- Rear tear drop light with "blue dots”
- Great gold / silver metal flake steering wheel / working horn
- Chrome steering column
- Red dice…included!
- Stop light prism for dash (to see stop lights)
- Full complement of working gauges (except fuel gauge) Wooden gas gauge stick included. Gauges include speedometer, tachometer (lower dash mounted by steering wheel), oil pressure, & volt meter.
- Carpeted floor with dyna mat, finished door panels
- Trunk mounted aluminum gas tank
- Trunk fitted with Dyna Mat for insulation
- Optimum battery in enclosed container in trunk (for safety)
- Excellent "wide white” tires with 8/32” remaining tread
- Working exterior lighting systems including turn signals, brake lights, high & low beams, dash lights, horn, manual wiper on driver's side (car has never seen rain)
- Within the last 50 miles, the car passed the California required safety inspection with no findings and excellent brakes, tires, lighting systems.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the Model "A” as our personal car and it has been used for a recent Goodguy's cruise along with attending several events in our little town. To say the car makes a statement would be an understatement! Unfortunately, we simply do not have the space to store all of the cars that we would like to permanently add to our small collection. So, despite our plans to drive the Hot Rod across the country on Route 66, based on current time constraints, this trip will have to wait!
Please let us know if we can answer any questions or provide additional information regarding this highly unique, all steel Ford "5 Window."
Thank you,

A few additional points relative to the Model "A" Street Rod....
- We neglected to mention that the car is fitted with power brakes that do an excellent job of stopping this light car. It also has front disc brakes, hidden behind what appear to be aluminum finned drums. The braking system is fully functional and stops the car straight and sure. Brakes, hoses and pads/shoes have been checked and are all excellent.
- The car is available for sale prior to the end of the eBay auction but we ask that interested prospective buyers call us to discuss their offers, shipping (if applicable) and any other questions.
- The trunk, while not carpeted is fitted with Dyna Mat and has flat panels that would be very easy to carpet with panels.A headliner is not fitted and has not been deemed necessary for this style Street Rod. Again, any number of options could be used from a simple insulated center panel to a complete headliner. The top is nicely (professionally) chopped and door fit is vehicle appropriate. Windows roll up / down.
- Front speakers are mounted and wiring is run to back trunk area. No radio is fitted at this time although there appears to be wires run for a radio and amplifier.
Please call us with any questions. This Ford has belonged to our owner so we are VERY familiar with the car and should be able to answer any questions that you may have.
Thanks!
