This is a lady-owned and driven example, built by her husband for her approximately 20 years ago. This gentleman has built over 22 Fords and is an authority on Fords, known in the Rapid City, South Dakota area of car people. After years of trophies won, and many miles of highway covered, it has been decided that it is time to offer the car for sale. That is where I come in. A Texas newcomer to South Dakota,I hope you enjoy my presentation as much as I enjoyed visiting with Al and Carol, my tour guides of the Black Hills, and my new friends. If you bid early and often, I might add a buy it now at any time. This car has accrued approximately 5,000 to 7,000 miles on the restoration, always garage-kept and cared for. This one is special, built for Carol. These are two wonderful people I had the pleasure of working with during the last week of June, 2016. I flew to Rapid City, South Dakota from Greenville, Texas to advertise these special cars for them. I travel across the USA to sell people's cool cars and am based out of Greenville, Texas. We drove this '57 Thunderbird & '56 Sunliner over 100 miles through the Black Hills of South Dakota, visiting Mount Rushmore and the National Forests and other sites. These cars are proven road veterans. This '57 Thunderbird rides smooth and drives straight at highway speeds, I can personally attest to this. Remember, this Thunderbird has not been offered for sale until now. It traded hands privately over 20 years ago last. I was in car heaven working with these folks and their beautiful Fords! First of all, Al is an excellent body man. This car was a local car for approximately 40 years according to Al's recollection of the car, an original survivor. In the 1990s Al took ownership of this car with the dream to restore the car and show it with his wife. His personal car is a '56 Ford Sunliner. Although he is the builder of 22 Ford Convertibles over the years, he says the Ford Thunderbird was a first for him, and a different animal. Careful time and consideration was taken during the build of this car. Al completely disassembled the car and had the body media-blasted to bare metal inside and out. This is a no-hit car, confirmed by the condition of the original metal. The car was completely gone through. The 312 & Ford-O-Matic were removed and each rebuilt by expert Ford men in the area. Jims Machine shop rebuilt the 312, Jim has over 40 years experience with these Y-Blocks in the South Dakota area. DNF Transmissions was responsible for the transmission rebuild, they are also experts in their field. The car has somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 miles logged since the restoration was completed. The fresh air doors work great, the seals were replaced. Note the fit and finish of the doors. The body is very straight left and right. Although the car was painted approximately 20 years ago, you can see the quality of the restoration work. This car has withstood the test of time thanks to careful maintenance of the finish and mechanicals. Al uses synthetic brake fluid and flushes it with regularity he says. The oil and transmission fluids have also been kept up. The engine runs smooth and transmission shifts as it should. I was very impressed after logging over 100 miles in this Thunderbird. The car really does steer and stop well. The doors align correctly as does the hood and trunk lid. All of the glass was replaced along with the seals front to back. The chrome bumpers are in excellent condition. The exhaust system is routed through the correct bumper exits, the original extensions still in place. This is just a very nice car. Here is a video walkaround description below - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPjt1pSCuDY VIDEO WALKAROUND DESCRIPTION ABOVE - SEE THE CARS BODY UP CLOSE AND FEATURES IN A VIDEO ^^ Open the doors to 1957. We visited Mount Rushmore, what a beautiful place. This was my first time in this part of the country. This T-Bird is equipped with the 4-way power seat and power windows, both functional along with the Town & Country radio, also functional. The gauge cluster is fully functional, with exception of the temper-mental clock. The optional padded dash was replaced during the restoration and shows as new. A vintage Stewart Warner duo of oil pressure and amperage gauges are discreetly mounted under the dash. The heater works correctly as well. The seat upholstery is in excellent condition as are the door panels and door undersides. All of the rubber seals are pliable and in great shape throughout this car. The engine compartment is in excellent condition. The original 312 Thunderbird Special V8 was removed and rebuilt by a Y-Block specialist shop. This engine has the correct cylinder heads, hard to find correct Holley carburetor, and correct 312 block. It wears the beauty group breather and finned aluminum Thunderbird Special valve covers. The power steering cap and shroud are also chrome as is the battery shield. The correct 12-volt generator is in place along with the factory power brake setup. The radiator was replaced and an auxilary electric fan with discreet switch installed for parades. This is the correct and hard to find factory '57 Thunderbird Holley. (ECZ-AD stamped) The firewall, inner fenders and core support sheetmetal is in excellent condition throughout. The original identification plate is also in place and completely legible. The car is Dusk Rose / Colonial White (XE) with Colonial White Interior (XK) with the "D" code 312/245HP engine. The build date is October (K) 20th.The undercarriage displays excellent braces and flooring front to back. This has always been a dry climate car and it shows. The shocks have been replaced in recent history. The trunk is clean and detailed, complete with the correct mat, spare tire and factory jacking equipment. Note the condition of the metal in the spare tire well, inner quarters, and trunk lid, lips, etc. The white soft top was replaced and shows as new. Al even had a special padding made so when the fastened top sits on the body it doesn't rub. The back window is just beautiful as is the canvas top itself. All of the glass is light green tinted laminate and all of the stainless glass surrounds are excellent. The Colonial White porthole hardtop is also in excellent condition front to back, with the white headliner intact and seals in good shape.
