1965 Mustang Fastback (built by Hollywood Movie-car Legend ... Eddie Paul)
1965 Ford Mustang Description
Here's your chance to own one of the late Eddie Paul's early works of art before it goes to a major collector car auction. This car is a one-of-a-kind 65 Mustang Fastback wide-body dubbed "Mustang Magic" by Hot Rod Magazine in the late 1970s and featured in at least a dozen publications. Sadly and with all due respect, Eddie Paul recently passed away but he left behind an extensive legacy as an inventor, custom designer and Hollywood stuntman/movie-car builder. I have read references to Eddie as "the hardest working man in Hollywood" as well as being "Hollywood's best kept secret". A sampling of his Hollywood ties include builds for movies like "E.T.", "Grease" and "Star Wars". Further, he designed and built Stallone’s chop-topped Mercury in the movie "Cobra", Vin Diesel's "xXx" GTOs and all the cars in "The Fast & The Furious" and "2Fast 2Furious". Eddie also brought Lightning McQueen, Mater & Sally Carrera to life for PIXAR by creating full-sized versions. As you can imagine, Eddie's work is highly collectible. The 1949 Mercury "Hell's Chariot" he built for "Grease" sold on eBay in 2014 for more than $180K.
Mustang Magic's story began when HOT ROD magazine's editor, Bruce Caldwell, purchased a pooped out pony then hired Eddie to transform a into a super street wide-body stallion. Magic was featured in 8 issues of Hot Rod from Dec 1978 to Jan 1980 with a cover shot on the Aug 1979 edition. The entire build was then consolidated into a 28-page article in the "first" edition of MUSTANG MAGAZINE in 1980. The car also graced the cover of Petersen Publishing's Shop Series book titled "Engine Swapping". If you have access to the #1 issue of Mustang Mag, look it up. You'll be impressed with the work put into this year-long project including a 289 engine blue-printed at the Edelbrock factory in California.
This car has tons of documentation including a written appraisal from Eddie verifying the car's authenticity. I also had Eddie sign the car before clear coat was applied during his 2009 restoration where he put Magic back to its magazine glory days as a feature car pinup. A rare collector car with a rich provenance like this one should bring top dollar at venues such as Barrett Jackson's Celebrity Auction. Happy bidding!
