Here it is, the 1984 Ford Mustang SVO. The SVO was Ford's answer to the high powered European racers with the same punch of the American V8. Driving an SVO is not like driving any other Fox Body. Ford gave this Mustang 4 Wheel disk brakes, Koni adjustable shocks, a sleek interior that came in any color as long as it was charcoal, and an intercooled 2.3 Liter Turbocharged engine mated to a Borg Warner Hurst T5 transmission. This vehicle is 1 of 4263 units that were manufactured in 1984, 1 of only 1022 that came in 9W Dark Charcoal Metallic, and 1 of very few SVO Mustangs to receive the slapper bar suspension. The 1984 SVO is also the only year to have the recessed headlights. Not only is this car particularly unique, but it also has just shy of 70,000 miles, and a fantastic interior. The car still has the original paint, original Koni shocks, and a nice set of newer tires. The car drives great; the 2.3 Liter is much easier to stop than the 5.0 Liter V8 that saw most fox body Mustangs, especially with 4 wheel disk brakes with phenolic pistoned calipers. Car handles excellent on the Koni shocks, and takes off great with the help of the slapper bar suspension. In addition to being as original as possible, the car has received many performance bits that give it more of a bite. The 2.3 Liter of 1984 SVOs was the only to come with green top injectors and an ecu that was tuned to such which did not help the lowest rated horsepower of the SVO years; however, this SVO has received 35# brown top injectors, a large VAM tuned to accompany them, and a smoother ECU tuned to the package. The result is a solid smooth idle with faster processing. Following the fuel upgrades, a new tank was installed to allow for the in tank pump provision. The exhaust flows through a 2 1/2" downpipe and through a 2 1/2" side exit exhaust. This free flowing exhaust really lets you hear the turbo spool especially at low 2,000 RPMs. This SVO has the Garret Airesearch turbo, known for its kick and significant ability to handle mods. To handle the boost, new ARP bolts and a Felpro head-gasket are in place, forced fed by the Garret turbo, large VAM and injectors, with a cold air intake. Cooling the engine is a large aluminum radiator with performance water pump, 185 degree thermostat with aluminum housing, and 2 high flow electric fans. Although the interior is SVO factory, the shifter handle was also kept in the Hurst name, but with a Hurst white ball grip and chrome shifter. To top it all off, in the glove box is the original owners manual, Koni shock booklet, original maintenance handbook, and even a postcard to order a special Ford stuffed animal that came with the generosity of the 1984 dealerships. AND, in addition to the low miles, I am only the second owner of this car. CONDITIONS OF SALE This car is being sold as-is and as-shown with no implied warranty. Buyer is responsible for shipping.
