1966 Ford F-100 Description
1966 FORD F-100CUSTOM CAB - CRUISE-A-MATIC - 352 V8 - FACTORY A/C
Here is a bit of history about my 1966 Ford F-100. First of all, I've always dreamed of owning a 1966 Ford F-100 since I was a kid. I believe this model year is not only the best looking pick-up Ford ever made but, also the finest engineered pick-up of the era. I spent years on my questto locate one in the finest original condition as possible. However, I did not want one which was a frame-off restoration or in show condition; only to trailer it around or drive it a few miles each year to car events. I really wanted a truck that looked awesome and was mechanically sound that I could drive wherever and whenever I wanted without worrying about breaking down or getting a stone chip in the paint. Then one day in 2008, I found one on the internet that looked great and from the description sounded perfect. I contacted the owner and we had a very nice and long conversation. After talking with him at great length and learning about the history of the truck; I could tell he was an honorable and respectable man. I thought to myself this could be the one! Since the truck was clear across the country an hour outside of Dallas, I hired an outside auto inspection company to evaluate the truck. When I received the multi-point detailed written inspection report, I was thrilled to find they gave the truck stellar marks and they also included many photos. Now I started to get real excited! (original report included in the sale). I immediately contacted the owner and we came to an agreed price. A few days later, a buddy of mine and I flew to Dallas to get the truck and drive it home. Once I laid eyes on her, it took me back to when I was 10 years old. The truck was gorgeous inside and out! After Istarted her up, I ran to the rear of the truck to hear the 352 V8 exhaust note coming out of the dual pipes. Yup, that's the sound I remember. After a short visit, my friend and I headed out to make the 1600 mile trek back to Rochester, NY. In a nut shell - we had a blast! The truck was not only powerful but, drove beautifully and cruised at 75 mph effortlessly. Did I mention this was during a heatwave in July? Well, that was not an issue since the truck has factory ice cold air conditioning! Pretty rare for any pick-up in 1966. Now, let me get to some details about the truck:
- Originally sold at Dan Stanley Ford in Joplin, Missouri in 1966 and remained with the originalowner for many years. The man I bought it from purchased it from Johnson Auto Sales in Joplin, Missouri (dealeremblem remains on truck). When I purchased it in July, 2008 it was apparent it had always been respectfully cared for and well maintained.
- 56,559 original miles (it had 45,009 when I purchased it). Although, I cannot document - I believe this to be true and it is evidenced based on the condition of the body, engine, brake pedal wear and various clues found on the truck.
- Original engine - 352 cu. in. V8 - Numbers matching (one of the best quality and powerful engines Ford ever produced as they used them in cars, trucks, buses and boats from 1958 through 1976).
- Cruise-A-Matic 4 speed automatic transmission.
- Twin-I-Beam suspension (rides nice).
- Custom Cab - which includes: chrome front and rear bumpers, aluminum bright workalong the sides, badging, aluminum grille, bright windshield moldings, LS and RS padded arm rests, cigarette lighter, two-tone paint, LS and RS outside mirrors, AM radio and antenna, padded dash, padded visors, full foam cushion seat, seat belts, LSdoor vinyl zippered storage compartment, headliner with bright moldings, two-speed electric wipers, dual electric horns, voltage gauge, oil pressure gauge, bright metal hub caps and side-mounted spare tire carrier.
- Factory Ford Rotunda Air Conditioning.
- The entire truck - Body, chassis, frame, bed, etc. are rust free.
- All of the body panels, fenders, glass, bright work, aluminum trim, bumpers and engine are original to the truck. Note: Bumpers have never been re-plated or removed from the truck.
- One quality re-paint sometime in the early 2000's. The body is completely straight and true with absolutely no fiberglass or Bondo anywhere on the truck. The body is also completely free of any dents or dings. Small dent in bright work molding LF - pictured. I should note; there are many small stone chips which have occurred over the years and one scratch on the left front quarter panel. That said - As soon as I noticed any imperfections in the paint, I touched it up with quality matching paint using an artist brush. Touch up paint was specially mixed from a premierauto paint refinisher and will be included in the sale.
- The original seat was recovered in quality Naugahyde by the previous owner.
- Padded dashboard was replaced by the previous owner.
- Voltage and oil pressure gauge was replaced by the previous owner.
- Engine runs smooth, strong and powerful.
- Transmission shifts smoothly.
- Drum brakes function as should.
- Class III Reese hitch and wiring (I had this professionally installed and can be uninstalled easily if desired).
- Headlights, parking lights, turn signals, brake lights, license plate lights, dash lights, radio light and dome light work properly.
- Horn, radio, wipers, washers, gauges, heater and defroster work properly.
- Air conditioning blows ice cold.

OVERVIEW:
- The 352 V8 runs excellent and has plenty of torque. Always maintained and there are no knocks or pings and it does not burn oil. Runs like a new engine and the truck cruises at 75 mpheffortlessly - Very stable on the road and rides nice. The truck handles very well and feels stable around corners, bumpy roads or at high speeds. Keep in mind this is relative to a 50 year old vehicle and the handling is that of the era. The transmission shifts smoothly and does not burn any fluid. The brakes are outstanding. In fact, they are the best drum brakes I've ever experienced with no pulling to the left or right.
- Always covered and garage kept. Only driven between May and November.
- Every single light, gauge, bell or whistle works as it should.
- The AM radio plays loud and crystal clear. One of our favorite stations to listen to is broadcast out of Toronto, Canada and it comes in perfectly. And that's in another country over 200 miles away!
- Please note: This truck has not been restored or modified in any way from being stock original! Though certain areas have been refurbished and/or repaired, allmaintenance was performed to keep its original and uncommon integrity preserved.

SUMMARY:
- Why am I selling the truck you ask? First of all, we love the truck and it has been a verydifficult decision. However, we recently purchased our retirement home and are in the process of downsizing. Since we are going from a (4) stall garage to a (2) stall garage - it is time for the pick-up to go to a new home.
- If I were not selling the truck - What would I do to it? Absolutely nothing! Despite the repaint and a few other repairs... "They're only original once."
- Note: All photos of the truck were taken 7/31/16 with the exception of the two photos picturing our vintage travel trailer with the pick-up.
We have spent many evenings and weekends discovering new places along back country roads as well as many long drives along Lake Ontario. We've driven her to Lake Huron in Michigan and to Old Orchard Beach in Maine with our vintage 1954 Aljoa travel trailer in tow. Countless great memories and she drove like a dream - Always reliable and dependable. She gets lot of looks and thumbs up when driving down the road and if we stoppedalong the way, people would go crazy over the truck. We took it to many car shows and the truck won best in class more than once. Once you start cruising around in the pick-up, a feeling comes over you like you just wandered back in time. It's as if Roger Miller is going to jump out of theback of the truck at any moment and start singing "King of the Road". The pick-up triggers your senses about the recollections of feelings, experiences and places that once brought a sense ofexcitement. As soon as you get behind the wheel, the pick-up will make you want to adventure and explore again.
