1966 Ford Mustang Fastback 289 with Pony Interior
1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Description
This 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback was built in November 1965. I bought it when I was stationed in San Diego, CA several years ago. It has a clear California title in my name and is currently registered in California. It has been an occasional weekend driver, but I am selling it because I have retired to Maine and will not expose it to bad weather or road salt. It has been garage kept since I owned it.
This car originally had a Sahara Beige exterior and a Emberglo and Parchment Pony interior, but a previous owner repainted the car to it's current Emberglo exterior color. It is one of only 7,889 fastbacks built with the luxury "pony" interior out of the 607,568 Mustangs produced in 1966. The pony interior features embossed galloping ponies on the front seats, a wood grain steering wheel and dash, pistol grip door handles, and red and white courtesy lamps in the doors.
This fastback has a "C" Code 289 V8 engine with a Holley carburetor, front disk brakes, four speed manual transmission, reproduction styled steel wheels, a full length console, Rally Pac (with working tachometer and clock), and original AM radio.
This car has been regularly driven, and gets lots of compliments. However, it would need work if you want it to be a show car. The interior and exterior paint is older, and has some chips, bubbles, and scratches. The bottom of the body hasn't been touched since I owned it, and shows some surface rust. There is some pitting and scratching in the chrome. The windshield has swipe marks from the wipers. The steering wheel would require replacement to show (see photos). The window regulators are worn and should be replaced (the windows roll down easily, but I usually hold the glass with one hand as I crank them back up). The car drives well. The odometer works and currently reads 27,606. I am unsure of the exact mileage (possibly 127, 606?), and when or if the engine was last rebuilt. I replaced the underdash and engine bay wiring harnesses a few years ago. The battery was replaced this spring. I have included a photo of the original data plate on the driver's door. The sheet metal on the inside of the left fender is stamped with the same warranty number (6F09C160954). I will include a reproduction owner's manual and a service manual with the car.
This classic Mustang could continue to be used as a cool and fun driver, or could be restored to show. I have taken the condition of this 50 year old car into account, and have set a very reasonable reserve. Please contact me if you have any questions. The car is located in the Bangor, Maine area if you would like to view it or have someone inspect it before bidding. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due to my PayPal account within 24 hours of the auction's end, with payment in full due within 7 days. All funds must clear before the car can be picked up. I am happy to provide my telephone number or any additional desired photos to prospective buyers. The vehicle is being sold in as-is condition - no warranty is offered. Thank you for looking!
