This truck was owned by one family until I purchased it this year. This was bought new at Crollard ford in Coer D' alene Idaho on 3-22-66. It stayed in the same basic area until I purchased it. I bought it from the son of the original owner. This is a clean and solid pickup. No external rust. A little floor rust which I will detail. The body is almost perfectly straight too with only a couple small dings. Below are all the details on the pickup. I have many more pics I can send also. It is a good old original pickup and very tight. MANY MORE PICS AVAILABLE. I will also be adding video of it running.
Note: to accurately view the pics above, click on one and then scroll through them. Also, the wheels and tires in the pics will not come on the truck. They were borrowed off my other '66 to see what this would look like with original rims. The truck comes with white spoke wheels. I can possibly help you locate original wheels if you want but they are split-type.
MECHANICAL
This pickup has the 390 V8 with 4-speed manual. At some point a newly rebuilt 390 was put in the truck. It was several years ago that the new motor was put in, and I'm not sure how many miles are on it. The motor runs nice and does NOT smoke, tick, knock, leak or miss. It runs smooth and the engine sounds great. It has dual exhaust that sounds good but sounds like it may need a little work. I can check it out better to find out where it is leaking. It runs cool with no overheating. The oil looks fine with no abnormalities. The motor starts up every time. I would recommend fluid changes and the usual tune-up things checked out, but it needs no major mechanical work. Most people would freshen it up with new plugs/wires, etc. but it doesn't need it really. It definitely needs tires. They are older and weather cracked. The suspension and steering all feels tight. I had another set of nicer radials on this that I borrowed off another pickup, and it drove nice. The front-end has no clunking and no slop. It is the twin I-beam frontend, not a straight axle. The clutch and transmission work nicely, just as they should. Brakes work fine. I'm sure it would be good to flush/bleed the system though, but they work fine now.. The lights and wipers works. Heater and defrost selector works. Flashers work. It really only needs new tires, but I would do a basic tuneup on it and change the fluids.
BODY
The body on the truck is in nice original condition. It only has a couple very small dings, and no external rust-through. It does have a little floorpan rust which I will detail. The floors are solid and it can be driven with no problem. The pans have a little rust on each side in the foot area pan. The outer floor support ends are also rusted, which is a common problem on these trucks. These ends are easy to replace, and not expensive. The end is open, and does not connect to the rocker area, making them fairly easy to replace. There is one on each side.The doors, hood and tailgate all operate properly. The box, fenders, doors, inner fenders, hood, roof, sills,firewall, jams, tailgate, and frame, etc., are all dry and solid. The paint is pretty worn but it cleaned up good and I'd be happy to drive it around. The windshield is broke. I guess you can decide for yourself if it's usable or not. They are inexpensive anyways. Overall, the body is in really good shape for an un-restored 1966. You could drive it as-is for a long time and not worry about the floor rust.
INTERIOR
The interior is original with the exception of the stereo and seat cover. It is not perfect but in pretty good shape. New seat cover. The seat does have the usual wear/damage under the seat cover. Original reproduction seat upholstery can be bought to re-do it just like original. They are about $200. The dash has a couple cracks. I wouldn’t replace it myself, but new dash pads are available. The doors, dash/gauge area and floormat are in good shape. Headliner is basically gone. These are a "headliner board" type headliner, and easy to replace. Seat springs feel fine. Gauges work. Lights and flashers work. Doors open/close fine and lock as they should.
OVERALL
This is a clean survivor. I would be proud to drive it as-is, but it would be an easy one to restore also. Maybe do a 4x4 conversion, or?
