I am auctioning my 1985 Ford Explorer XLShort Wide Bed Pick-up to the highest bidder. This pick-up was in storage when I found it and had not been started or moved for approximately 15 years when I bought it in November 2014 to restore as a driver. This pick-up is one of the first Ford's to be equipped with a fuel injection system instead of conventional carburation which required my mechanic toinstall 3 fuel pumps, fuel filters, fuel injectors, an ECM computer, the TPS sensor, fresh anti-freeze, oil and filter. I was then ableto drive the truck for approximately 20 miles before it died and would not restart. I suspect that trash in the fuel system is the problem. Itdoes not run now and I am not spending any more money on it. If I were able to start over, I would eliminate the fuel injection system and replace it with a conventional carburetor and intake manifold, but hindsight is always 20/20.
The good: No leaks or smoke or knocks. When running, the engine ran cool with good oil pressure andtheO/D transmission shifted smoothly. With the exception of the windshield that has a horizontal crack, all the glass is good. Because the truck is from dry west Texas, the body is rust free and virtually dent free. The odometer registers 62,643 miles.I do not guarantee the mileage to be accurate but the speedometer did work when I drove the truck.
The bad: The A/C does not work. The cruise control does not work. The tires hold air but are old, cracked and need to be replaced. The seat cover and headliner are original and need to be replaced. The door panels and interior plastic trim should either be replaced or repainted. The paint appears to be original.
The present economy dictates that I part with a few of the automobiles that I enjoy and this is one of 3 that must go. I am setting $2000.00 as the opening bid.Call me before bidding if you have no bid history, as I willremove any bid withoutbid history. This is not a game. I have a trailer andoffer delivery anywhere in the Continental United States for $1.70per one way miles, if the buyer desires. Please callDwain at: 325/656-8154 or e-mail me at: morfenco@wcc.net for specific pictures or information. The pick-up is located in San Angelo, Texas and I invite your inspection. I will accept Cash oran electronic money transfer and release the pick-up immediately. A Cashier's Check or a personal checkwill require enough time to prove deposit before the truck or the title will be released.
The Texas title is clear with no liens, and in my name. Thepick-up was registered and insured but both have now expired. This is a desirable31 year old Ford Explorer XL Short Wide Bed Pick-up that will make an excellent investment or can be used as a parts truck to rebuild another. The body is good and there is potential in this desirable old Ford. Thanks for looking.
