1956 gmc suburban carrier/ town & country
1956 GMC Other 1956 gmc suburban carrier Description
1956 gmc suburban carrier pickup truck, 100% original
this is a factory built promotional truck by gmc in 1956, known as the suburban carrier, also referred to as town and country and carryall, it was gmc's version of the cameo and they are extremely rare trucks as only 300 per year were made over a 3 year period, however true production numbers are unknown and anyone stating production numbers as fact would be misleading yet they are very few ever produced as agreed by all.
this truck is totally original and has all its hard to find parts!
big window deluxe trim cab, factory visor, factory tach, factory radio, arm rests, spot light, fresh air heater, factory hub caps, all original trim and factory badging and power brakes as well as original seat!
truck rolls and steers very nice with no issues, i have it on wheel dollies to make it easier to move in my warehouse. tires are pre 76 but do hold air (tubes)
the cab on this truck is extremely clean w very little rust, but there is a small amount, mainly in drivers side door pocket and bottoms of fenders as shown in pics. floors, cab corners, drip rail etc are solid!!
all glass is original and in great shape w the exception of passenger side door window, its cracked. windows all roll up and down easily, doors shut tight w no rattles, doors do not sag at all either.
has amazing patina!!
the drivers side fender has had a repair to it at some point in its life and the bondo or filler has cracked and started to come out as seen in pics
the grill and trim are very straight and complete.
the bed is very nice! the owner backed into it at some point and there is a small crack about 6 to 8 inches in it but not bad and easily repairable. the paint on the bed has cooked off the fiberglass different than the cab, however it is the original bed stock to the truck and bed has never been removed. has original spare tire holder under the bed behind bumper.
wood in bed is original as you can see in pics
the owner bought this truck brand new in 1956 at the local gmc dealership in massachusetts and drove it pulling a small trailer to san diego california in 1958 where it had resided since. the owner stated it was a great truck and ran fine when he parked it in 1976 when he bought a new chevy pickup and said he drove the gmc around his property for a few years.
the truck has its original factory 316 v8 motor and factory hydromatic transmission also. the engine turns over freely, has clean oil(carb was taped off and covered) trans has clean fluid neither have any signs of any moisture.
we put marvel in the cylinders and let it sit for a week, changed the plugs and hooked a battery up to it and it turned over w no problem as it cranked it wanted to start but a fuel line broke as the rubber lines are very hard and cracked which is no surprise from a truck that has sat for 40 years. sob that being said, it does not run and brakes are out so keep this in mind w your transporting/shipping.
YES i do have the rails that go on top of the bed
