This truck had been owned by the same person since 1984 and was stored indoors for much of that time. Upon researching found this to be a very rare piece. From what I've been able to find out, there were 81 of these built from 1939 to 1940.
Truck is said to be one of only 81 built..this one is #65. I have never seen one. Many others have said the same. Don't know how many still exist.No rust. Body is solid!Aside from it's AWESOME looks, The super cool thing about this old beauty is it STARTS Right up!
I Drove it home! Even the air brakes work!!!

Here is some information I was able to find from the above link regarding how rare this truck really is:The vehicle used for the cav mech regiments horseboxes was the 2 1/2-ton, 4X4, Tractor, COE (Cabin Over Engine) GMC AFKX-502-8E). 6 cylinders, 122 bhp. It was an adaption of the standard civilian 4x2 truck tractor. The nine horse mechanized regiments (one for each army corps) were;
4th and 6th Cavalry (Regular Army)
101st Cav NYNG
102nd Cav NJNG
104th Cav PennNG
106th IllNG
107th Cav OhioNG
113th ICav IowaNG
115th Cav WYNG
(In the immediate period pre WWII the NG was reduced to these regiments, and those of the 56th Cavalry Brigade of the TXNG. Seven regiments had been converted int Field Artillery, and seven more into Coast Artillery). Each of these nine regiments were supposed to have 74 of these Truck Tractors with their semi-trailer horse boxes, there were only 81 of the GMC produced in 1939-40, for a requirement of at least 636! This is the vehicle illustrated in one of the visuals of this website. Anecdotal evidence I have seen, states that the horse box was a well designed vehicle for its job. The majority of which were converted during the war into Army Air Forces airfield control trailers.
