1992 GMC Typhoon Description

I have an EXCEPTIONAL 1992 GMC Typhoon true unrestored SURVIVOR, with extremely lowmileage (22k pampered miles). If you could go back in time to 1992 and buy one at a dealer,THIS is what you would see. My SyTy friends will know this as “2206” (last 4 of vin).

I can go into the extensive list of original OEM parts on this vehicle, but truthfully, the list of what’s been changed since new is tiny, and much easier to mention. I am only the second owner of this vehicle, and live just south of Cleveland, Ohio. I live in the suburb of Cleveland where it was originally purchased (the now-closed Gene Norris Oldsmobile/GMC). I saw this vehicle in 1992, but could not afford it. But when I saw it again 21 years later (just 12 miles away) I just HAD to have it. It now sports one of the nearly last set of proper second generation Firestone Firehawks (from a Chicago tire dealer), battery, fluids, and exhaust (tasteful quiet stainless Magnaflow) are only among the list of the few things that have been properly replaced for safe as-close-to-original driveability.

It’s INTENSELY ORIGINAL, right down to all of the PAS parts/stampings, factory date “bingo” stampings all over, inner fender date codes, GM Guide headlights, GM “Typhoon” stitched floormats. The ice cold A/C still pumps R12. The rear electric chassis load-leveling pump still turns on when needed, the rims are still new. The list goes on and on…

The very few downsides (due to it’s age) are easy to mention: The notorious heater core leak (that ALL units suffered) is present, but properly bypassed to prevent an interior antifreeze drops or smell. The CD player motor (that infamously never stops running with key-on) has finally failed. These are well-known failures that failed chronologically on ALL original Syclones and Typhoons shortly after purchase in the 90's.

The Bilstein shocks are still gorgeous and working perfect. The chassis is still black and glossy, with the original shiny gray floorpan. All of the lower cladding is still perfect and new.

A few honorable mentions:

The FACTORY GM tire changing gloves are still in the factory spare tire sleeve, in the GM Ziploc bag with the center cap lock wrench! The tailgate still has the GM sticker on it. It still bears all the original light bulbs, including the Guide Halogen headlights and fog lights. This is a luggage rack and CD optioned vehicle. The paint is a 10 out of 10 and has been professionally (yet gently) multi-stage restored and polish coated to better-than-new brilliance.

I have the original window sticker, sales contract, BOTH owner’s manuals, Gene Norris license plate ring (there has NEVER been a front plate drilled into the bumper, IN a state that has a mandatory front plate law!), original black vinyl-coated keys, multiple working GM remotes, dealer parade magnets, Typhoon monogrammed turquoise satin jacket, and Gene Norris polo shirt. The salesman is still alive and remembers this truck and its purchase in 1992. This vehicle was originally purchased by a car guy, was always kept in a climate controlled environment, and is now STILL kept in a climate controlled garage by a very passionate car guy (myself).

I proudly displayed this a few years back at the indoor Syclone/Typhoon display at the Truck Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and I can say with complete confidence that Tom Mandrov of Sportmachines Inc (the country’s leading authority on SyTy vehicles) will vouch for its original condition and authenticity (if you want an honest opinion from a professional who’s seen it). I will be glad to video chat (Facetime) with a serious buyer to get a live look at anything you request.

If you are serious about owning one of the few unmolested 1992 Typhoons left in the country, then approach this sale with confidence, and expect a turn-key purchase that’s TIGHT and rattle-free, still drives as new, with the new car smell still STRONG and fully intact daily. NO GAMES HERE. Legit survivor. Honest seller.

Please remember, it’s a barely used, and still a 26 year old vehicle. Be reasonable. It appears as a 1k mile vehicle, but it can be driven without the troubles of a 1k mile vehicle that’s not cycled. You’ll be very hard pressed to find one THIS CLEAN, especially one that can (and will) be enjoyed.

Honest, passionate car guy seller. The price is negotiable, but again please be reasonable.
