1981 GMC C1500 SWB SHORT BOX SOLID SURVIVOR PROJECT C10 2WD
1981 GMC 1500 Description
1981 GMC C1500 SWBSHORT WIDE BOX6 cylinder3 speed on the columnOdometer reads 29,462 (this is subject to change as I drive the car) Also this is 5digit odometer. I am in no way stating this truck has 29K. if I were to guess based on its condition, I would say 129k.
Story= This was supposedly a one owner truck. owned by a local northwest chicken farm. They quit using the truck in 2013 and it was parked . The owner passed and the family was selling off some items. The truck was sold to a local scrap company a personal friend of mine owns. He knows I do square body stuff and reached out to see if I was interested. We made a deal and I am super happy to have saved this truck. I charged the battery, installed a new fuel filter, soaked the cylinders and replaced the plugs and replaced the starter. It fired right up. The Power steering pump had a bad front seal so I replaced the pump.
The truck starts, runs, stops. All the lights and signals work except it could use some dash bulbs in the cluster and the high beam indicator bulb. I listed the truck as a project. Basically I have driven the truck but the truck is not licensed. I have many vehicles and several projects ahead of this truck and it may be a year or so before I can get to it. Rather than it sitting with little to no use, I am offering it up for sale. It's currently still running on 3/4 tank of 2013 fuel and the brakes work but need flush/bled.
I love a few things about this truck.
-How basic the truck is.Remember in the mid 70's and early 80's trucks were changing from more utilitarian work vehicles to more optioned driver vehicles. So the trend was the options the better. This truck is like a throw back to the more basic necessities of what made a truck a truck. No real comfort features as it was needed to get a job done. This truck had two basic options.Power steering and power brakes. THATS IT!. It was a radio delete, it didn't come with a cigarette lighter, no dome light, no power this or that, no AC. Some may view this as a negative. trust me I love loaded trucks, but I love how this truck was built.-How original the truck is.This truck appears to be nearly 100% original. The right fender marker light is not original and the radio/antenna were added at some point. One small screw hole was added in the front bumper (not sure why). it has a small organizer behind the seat. The windshield has been replaced and a trailer plug has been wired in. An inline fuel filter had been added at some point so I replaced it. The hood, cowl, roof and bed rails have been primered, probably just to protect from rust. (pre-patina craze) These are the only modifications I can find on this truck.
-How complete the truck is.The truck is Super complete. The jack, owners manual, spare tire mount are all that I can see missing.
-The overall condition. The truck overall is solid. Both cab corners will need attention and it has a couple dings on the body. The right fender. both doors and the left windshield post have small dents. the box is nice for a farm truck. The cowl, floors, door jam, and rockers have no apparent rust. The core support and even the battery tray are solid. The glove box hing is bad (common). The dash pad and left arm rest pad are both cracked. (the dash pad is pretty nice and can be fixed)
-Blank slate. The truck can be appreciated as is or modified. Big Block/LS stripper truck? Drop it down with some transit/custom wheels and tries. Its a fantastic foundation for a build. If you start with something nice your end result will be nice.
