1979 GMC 3500 Dually
1979 GMC 3500 Flatbed Description
This old truck was bought from a rancher in OK who used it on farm to haul a hay bale trailer around. It is a factory flatbed dually with the paperwork showing that it was sold without a bed. Being a 3500 this truck has heavy duty everything, very rugged truck. I drove this truck back for OK to Dallas with 0 issues, i drive it around town to run errands and pickup lumber. Its dependable and drive able. It just needs some love, and I have enough projects as it is.
The Good:
- The truck body is straight with no signs of significant rust. It has a nice patina on the original red paint.
- The 350 engine cranks right up with no hesitation and runs like a sewing machine
- The 4 speed transmission has the granny low gear, it shifts well with no issues
- The flatbed is tough as nails has a 5th wheel and a permanently attached tow hitch
- Has a heavy duty trailer brake installed
- All mechanicals work on the truck, it is driveable
- It has a hat rack for your cowboy hat and gun rack for your .. well guns
- It has a hydro-boost brake system
- The original quadrajet carb works flawlessly in any weather hot or cold
- No smoke, no engine noises, and the transmission shifts great.
The Bad:
- The interior is rough it was a ranch truck after all, the seat has been repaired with duct tape in multiple places
- Parking brake cable is broken, i just leave it in gear or put a rock under the tire
- About the only thing that works in the instrument cluster is the Speedometer
- It has all the AC parts on the truck, but far as i can tell the AC doesn't work
- The front drivers suspension clunks a bit, needs a ball joint
- Front right tire needs replaced, it has a slow leak
- The ODO reads about 45000 miles, but we all know that isn't a dependable measure as it could be 145k. The truck is mechanically sound and i drive it once a week at least though, no smoke, no engine noises and the transmission shifts great.
