1948 GMC FC102 -- Description

JUST THREE OWNERS FROM NEW!EXCELLENT PRESERVATION AND REMARKABLE CONDITIONORIGINAL, GREAT-RUNNING GMC ENGINE NEVER REBUILTFLOOR-SHIFTED 4-SPEED WITH COMPOUND LOW GEARWORKING ORIGINAL RADIO WITH CORRECT ANTENNACAREFULLY MAINTAINED AND WELL PRESENTED By 1947, American civilian-vehicle production was back in full swing and light-duty trucks were no exception. While Dodge and Ford rolled out new trucks for 1948 and Studebaker followed for 1949, General Motors beat them all with the May 1947 release of its new... Advanced Design Chevrolet and GMC truck models. Riding on completely redesigned frames, they featured smoother styling and Unisteel Battleship construction with larger, more-comfortable cabs and larger glass, plus standard dual windshield wipers, improved insulation, better seats and distinctive bumper bar grilles.Offered on behalf of only the third owner from new, this 1948 GMC FC 102 -Ton Pickup is an outstanding example of GMCs highly collectible and enjoyable Advanced Design trucks. A Deluxe model equipped with rear-quarter windows, it also features a useful 8-foot cargo bed in contrast to the standard 6.5-foot bed of the FC 100 -Ton pickups. Power is delivered by the original GMC-built, 228-cid full-pressure engine delivering 93 factory-rated horsepower, mated to a compound low 4-speed, floor-shifted synchromesh transmission. Other great features include a very rare GM accessory bedside spare-tire carrier and a desirable chassis-mounted gas tank, which moved inside the cabs of 1949 models, plus the original tube-type radio, which works beautifully with a correct antenna. Factory-type tags showing break-in intervals and The current owner purchased the truck from an architect in Ohio, who had acquired it as part of the purchase of a farm. With only some minor paintwork and a brake rebuild under the prior owner, the truck essentially remains in as purchased condition, with the benefit of annual oil changes, chassis lubrication and minor paint touch-ups. The owner states that the original GMC engine has never been rebuilt and shows correct readings for oil pressure, coolant temperature and generator output. The original generator has been rebuilt and its output properly matched to the voltage regulator. The seat covers and fiberboard headliner panels have been replaced, as was the windshield. Unlike many classic pickups, the instruments of this 1948 GMC are original and work and look great. A NOS fuel pump and inline fuel filter were installed during 2018. A huge success when new, the first all-new postwar GMC pickups are highly collectible and economical to own and operate today. They are also quite rare compared to their counterparts from Chevrolet. Blessed with just three owners from new, carefully used and maintained and restored only as needed, this highly original and very attractive survivor is an outstanding and highly enjoyable find by any measure. It is sure to draw attention wherever you go with it and will make a great calling card for your business or just provide you with many years and miles of fun.
